First time eating lunch here. They will take your order over the phone but will not fix it until you pay and you cannot pay over the phone. Resulting in you having to wait to get your order. As this was my first time I do not think calling in the order actually saves you any time. On to the food… again this is about lunch only breakfast is completely different. Ill review that later because their breakfast is what made me want to try lunch.
We ordered the smoked sausage plate & 1lb of Riblets and we split it. Definitely enough for almost 4 meals in total. Now I was craving pecan pie and it tasted really good but I wouldn’t pay $3.50 again. Now on to the plate the coleslaw needed salt & pepper but was good slaw. The beans needed seasoning too so I added the BBQ sauce which was really good. I like my meat to not be dependent on sauce. The sauce is super heavy and the meat without it is not seasoned IMO. The sausage was good same sausage they serve at breakfast.

My wife said the sauce was a lil spicy but most other bbq restaurants don’t ever give you enough so i ordered an extra cup. The waitress was more than happy to fulfill my request. So my wife and I decided to eat in the car because the smell and freshness of the food was almost irresistible. Take into consideration my wife and I both work at a very nice restaurant just north of Bham. Their food was magnificent. It was fresh. It was hot. The smell was fantastic along with the taste. I didn’t get heartburn thank God. Their sauce is fresh and very very good. I recommend this restaurant as one of my top 5 in Bham and I eat out a lot because of the schedule that I keep keeping our restaurant doing well but taking the time to go-to the Pit was well worth it.

This place is the place you want to be!! I’ve been here twice. I’ve only gotten the exact same thing which was a bacon over easy egg cheese sandwich w/ Mayo! The bacon is thick and crispy!! Sandwich is so flavorful not greasy as all!! I live in Hoover and I’ll drive here every day I’d I could! You have to try this place you will not regret it!! There is a drive thru and you can also walk in for to go orders as well! Customer service is on point also!! Get there!!

Just a disappointment. I called my order in at 6:30 and told them I would be coming through about 7. I asked if they could have it ready when I got there. They said yes, no problem, just come inside when you get here. So I arrive right at 7, and the inside is packed to the gills as per usual. I take notice of the owner behind the grill spending more time discussing football than cooking. Took me 10 minutes to shuffle my way to the register. Fine I think to myself, no big deal, they’ll definitely have it ready, the extra 10 minutes should guarantee that. I’ll be a few minutes late to work, but not a big deal and at least I’ll have breakfast. I finally get to the front, only to discover they have not even started on my order. I informed the cashier I didn’t have any more time to wait and she offered to just cancel my order. So all in all, I wasted 15 minutes for an order that was never started, was late to work, and am now sitting here getting hangrier and hangrier. The Pit has shown they do not have the ability to complete an order in a timely manner. I will not be back.

Absolutely incredible experience this family operated barbecue joint, is the epitome of southern hospitality. They watched out for my well-being as well I walked in with a Texas longhorns T-shirt and the family worried about my safety so they gave me another shirt to switch out with it. The son Chris and his father truly have a passion for staying true to southern-style barbecue, The girls at the counter we’re very friendly and courteous. There was a line out the door of locals that I chatted with and they told me that this was their favorite barbecue spot, the line didn’t the stand still for long as they were quite quick getting food out. I’m not sure what else to say, the warm apple pies they served where an absolute treat the meal was excellent, prices are beyond fair…. the passion in their food shines……best put this family takes their barbecue as seriously as the state of Alabama takes football.

Get this. The menu is 5 stars. Breakfast is where it’s at, 10am switch to lunch. Lg sandwich is “large”. Worth the line, usually 10-15 wait time.
