Old school deli with great food, generous (but not over the top) portions and great friendly welcoming staff. We love it!
Food is so fresh! The pastrami melts in your mouth. We came to celebrate National Got Pastrami Day, and we’re delighted!

Good God. I drove 3 and a half hours for this and I’ll do it again tomorrow if I can get out of bed. Corned Beef with a knish in place of the bread? The Only way this could have gotten better is if I’d ordered two big latkes and stuffed between those. If you put that on the menu, please call it ‘Lucky’s Latkes-on-Beef’ Sandwich, I’d be proud to come back and have one every time I’m in town. What’s the deal with the pickles? How do you make a pickle that tastes THAT good? I’ve had Katz’ (and I love Katz’) but no one can beat these pickles and these latkes. The brisket Kreplach were insanely good, the matzo ball was soft, the broth on both could cure the incurable. Thanks for being so kind and for being here keeping the old traditions going in the best way possible, looking forward to visiting again, abi gezunt.

I had a great dinner. Matza ball soup. Chips (best with their gravy) and a hot pastrami. Hands down #1 pick for kosher deli.

One of the best pastrami Reuben sandwiches I have ever had. Quick service, and hot delicious food. I would highly recommend this place.

We live in a “Deli Dessert” AKA the Princeton area. You cannot get a good Pastrami or Corned Beef sandwich anywhere in the area. We grew up in the the New York City area, and so we were raised on good Deli food.
So, we drove about an hour for lunch because we had heard such great things about The Pickled Herring. AND it did not disappoint.
The Mushroom Barley soup was thick and delicious, just like I remember it from the great Jewish Delis. My Pastrami Sandwich was lean but also moist and delicious (see photo). The coleslaw and kosher pickles were a tasty complement to the sandwich. The side of Onion Rings was great (photo).
Our server, Debbie, was both good at her job and very funny. She made our lunch experience just that much better.
On the way out, we couldn’t resist stopping for some take-out sandwiches and sides for later, and, of course, a big black n’ white cookie for dessert.
Bottom Line — we will be back!

A great place to have good food with friends and family.
Pickled herring in cream with onion: good, the herring morsels are sweet and sour. Onions are crunchy and sweet.
One slice of atuffed derma with Kishka: good, make sure you have it with the gravy served together.
The Reuben: great! Supersized serving. Would eat again. The fries were good, crispy and not oily.
Hot beef brisket with brown gravy: good, get a bit messy with gravy.
Overstuffed combo sandwich – pastrami & corned beef: good, the sandwich was literally bursting.

Had an absolutely wonderful experience at The Pickled Herring Deli in Englishtown today! The atmosphere was friendly, and the service was quick and attentive. I ordered the classic pastrami on rye and a cup of their famous matzo ball soup, and both were perfect—exactly what a great deli should be. The portions were generous, and everything tasted fresh and authentic. If you’re looking for delicious, old-school Jewish comfort food in New Jersey, this is the spot! Highly recommend stopping by for a meal.

Delish! Worth the 40 minute round-trip to bring home. Still warm. Overstuffed CB and a knish. My favorite pickle too!

1/11/2024, we went there tonight at 5:30pm,the dining area was packed but we only waited less than 5 minutes for a table. Our waiters name was Jeff, he was very friendly. We ordered a Matzo-ball Chicken Noodle soup which was very delicious with pieces of chicken and carrots.Hot Pastrami on rye which came with coleslaw and pickles, the pastrami was very tender and lean and delicious. I also ordered a Square Knish which tasted like Gabila’s Coney Island Knishes.
On the way out my wife brought a Chinese cookie, which she said was very good.
We will definitely be back.
