This place is under new ownership and since they serve halal food, we decided to check it out. First impressions were very good. The restaurant is clean, well lit, and nicely laid out. The staff was excellent and very patient in answering our questions.
We ordered at the counter and Rudi, who helped us, was professional, courteous, and genuinely attentive. When it came time to pay, I noticed the tax amount on the terminal did not seem right for the total. I went ahead and paid, but after receiving the printed receipt I saw an 8.9% sales tax + a 5% service charge. That immediately raised concerns. I am not aware of sales tax being that high in this area, and the service charge was not disclosed anywhere on the menu, walls, or counter. It only appeared on the printed receipt, which most customers may not even request.
To Rudi’s credit, he took the initiative to call the owner, who spoke with me directly. The owner was polite, professional, and genuinely seemed new to the business. He explained that he took over a couple of months ago and was still learning the operational side. While I believe some of the information shared about taxes may be incorrect, I did not sense any intentional wrongdoing. He was receptive to feedback and said he would look into both the tax rate and the service charge.
The owner offered a discount and even a refund, both of which I declined, and ultimately insisted on giving us a complimentary dessert. That gesture, along with his willingness to listen, changed my overall impression.
We ordered the beef Philly steak burger and the spicy chicken wrap combo. Everything was freshly made, well portioned, and enjoyable overall, with the peri peri fries being a nice touch. The presentation deserves a big thumbs up as well.
I am leaving this review with optimism. The food, staff, and environment were all solid, and I especially want to recognize Rudi for handling the situation with professionalism and care. I hope the tax and service charge issues are reviewed and corrected for transparency and compliance. New halal businesses deserve support, and with a few fixes, this place has the potential to do very well.
Tiny spot not so big. But Big flavors
