Recently visited with friends who are locals and they highly recommend the Peat! We were visiting Montana and Wyoming and this was one of the best meals we had on our trip! The best steak I have had in years! I ordered the ribeye and it was cooked perfectly. The baked potato had a slightly crispy skin and was smothered in melted butter. Yum! Nothing fancy. It didn’t have to be. The flavors were the standouts. Everyone was super friendly and we felt like we were among friends. A diamond in the rough and the rough is what remains of the small-town west. Saddle up your horse, hop in your rig, or jump into your fancy car and head over to the Peat for an amazing meal.

Steak, salad, potatoes, and bread were delicious! Staff is friendly and attentive. Steak was juicy, cooked perfectly, and well seasoned. Restaurant, bar, and bathrooms were all very clean. We drive through Lima a handful of times a year and eat at the cafe if it’s open. Now that we know The Peat is also there, we’ll definitely stop in for a meal.

Hands down the best steak we’ve ever had! Went not once, but twice now & we live in Florida! I went to get a picture of the 16oz ribeye but it was too good to leave sit. The cheeseburger was perfection – hand made and seasoned and charred beautifully with correct amount of cheese to meat. MAKE RESERVATIONS – this is a small town gem of a find! I really don’t ever order steaks from restaurants, usually because they can never cook them correctly. The Peat is the best steak I have ever had at a restaurant. Cooked with care and to perfection. The drinks were stiff and the wait staff were on it when you needed another. If you are looking for a great place for a date, anniversary, or just driving through. Stop by. It is best to get a reservation. This is a small and very popular place. Sometimes you can belly up to the bar, but even that can be full. It’s more than worth it.

I typically don’t write reviews but this place deserves the recognition! We have been in Lima for a week on a fire assignment and they have made room for our large group every night with a heads up. We have tried just about everything on the menu and all of the food is exceptional the steaks are amazing and cooked perfectly!!! Even more importantly is the staff and the entire community, they have all gone out of their way to make us feel at home. This place is well worth stopping by just make sure to make a reservation and they will be more then accommodating!

I DJ’d a wedding reception here in September ‘22 and I had a really good time working with the staff and wedding party. The atmosphere is very warm, rustic, and cozy. There is a lot of character all over the walls and it really makes you feel at home. I would love to party here again. Bonus star for serving Coors Edge. I quit drinking a few months ago and finding good non-alcoholic beers that aren’t O’Douls is a bit difficult at most bars. I loved being able to buy Coors Edge here.

Brought a group of 8 here, they had plenty of room for us, got our drinks and food orders started quick.
The music was on point, and not so loud we couldn’t have conversations.
I ordered a burger and split a cheese pizza.
Pizza was hot, crispy thin crust with just a little char – absolutely perfect. Nice gooey warm cheese.
The burger was probably one of the top 5 burgers I’ve ever had. Packed with flavor, juicy, and thick! You can tell this wasn’t a frozen patty. Just what you expect in Montana.
They even had a little kids corner with some toys, games, and a seating area to keep the kids entertained.

We were on our way from Craters of the Moon to Butte, MT on our route for Glacier. We were going to get into town late so we were looking for dinner, when Google returned the hidden gem, The Peat Hotel & Steakhouse in Lima, MT.
Right off the highway, and easy to get to with plenty of parking. The building definitely looks as if it has some stories to tell, where within the food and drink have been well crafted!
We had several amazing meals over our two week road trip, but our ribeye dinner at The Peat, was by far our favorite dinner!
Blaine was a steak grilling machine, and friendly too. We happened to have the ‘chef’s table’ right next to his grill. He was happy to chat and we got to watch as he worked his magic. The end result was a perfectly cooked, juicy, tender grilled ribeye with garden fresh baked potatoes, and garlic toast with expertly placed grill lines!
The bartenders are on their mark as well, mixing up a variety of craft cocktails and mingling flavors you likely wouldn’t think of, but completely work.
It was an excellent meal at a very reasonable price. They allow you to choose a steak, and for $7 additional, serve with 2 salads, 2 potatoes, and 2 slices of garlic toast. We did this and split the 16 Oz. Ribeye, which was plenty of food and it was so dang good!

Really great food! I remember that prior to COVID you used to cook your own food, but now they cook it for you, and it’s excellent. Great people and a welcoming atmosphere. We’ll definitely be going back.
