This is the first review I have ever done – the place was that good! We have gone to a few upper class restaurants and steak houses in our life but our visit to the Parrott House was right up there with the very best. They know how to cook a steak and fish to perfection. The berry cobbler was to die for. My water glass was never empty. We don’t say this about a lot of restaurants but anytime we are in Rosenberg, we are going to definitely stop in at the Parrott House!

My friend and I had dinner at The Parrott House last night and it was superb. We ordered the smoked pork chop and chicken marsala. Both were delicious. We wanted to try everything on the menu, which apparently is new, as well as the chef who creates it all. Our server was attentive, personable, and friendly. I was told this beautiful establishment is under new management and there have been some changes, based off of customer reviews and I will say this is a place you should revisit if you were disappointed in the past.

Beautiful historic location, wonderfully renovated and a great place for dinner.

I presume.

If it wasn’t for the very slow service and the noise of the dirt track. I would have given a higher rating.

The food was very good, albeit slightly spendy. Our service was slower than normal.

But, I will be back when there isn’t a dirt track race happening to see if there’s is a difference

I attended an event at the Parrot House recently, and it was an experience I plan not to repeat. The event was slated to begin at 5pm and end at 7pm, with dinner being served to 160 people during that time frame. At 5pm, the space reserved was still being set up. The food was nowhere near ready, and there was not enough indoor seating, so many people were forced to sit outside during an event that was meant to unite a company’s crew and show appreciation for their hard work and dedication.

The food was not ready until after 6pm. It was served buffet style for some reason, and there was not enough space for the line of people forced to snake around the room – twice. People in line were bumping into tables and chairs, as the aisles were too small to accommodate 2 grownups at a time, let alone the few small children in attendance.

The food was subpar. The mixed vegetables were severely overcooked and extremely mushy and slimy. The lettuce in the salad was wilted, and the gravy was placed at the front of the buffet, while everything one would put gravy on was located much further down. The stuffing was so dry that many of us choked on it. Asking the servers for more water seemed to anger some of them.

The servers were very rude most of the time. Only a couple of them actually seemed to want to be there. Several times, the servers were yelling at each other during the event, in the midst of the attendees. Very unprofessional.

The room was decorated with largely dollar store decor and was cheap and tacky. I am unsure what the event coordinator paid for the space, but I am certain it was too much.
The parking lot is too small and poorly lit. Walking into the building, we nearly tripped on multiple potholes, broken brick in the walkway and then had to step over chicken strips and popcorn strewn over the steps.

Finally, the entire space itself was poorly renovated, using cheap looking materials and way too many layers of paint, destroying the antique charm that used to be there. Such a shame that history could not be preserved properly.

I truly wanted to have a good experience and be able to write a raving review, but absolutely everything that could go wrong, did.

We had Thanksgiving dinner here (2025). The place was half empty and almost felt somber. I was shocked at how little food there was. Looked like about as much food as you’d get at a hotel buffet in the mornings. What little that was there tasted good, but potatoes and yams were cold. They had the very basics for thanksgiving and that’s it. Like what you’d expect if you ordered thanksgiving at Denny’s or some place. Two small tables of food. I think 6 bins. The banquet room is nice though. The rest of the place is just old and creaky.

They gave us no drink menus and we had to ask what they had, then she would go check if they had it. But the waitress only came by twice the entire time. She brought the wrong drink and then my parents just gave up on drinks. I had a hot cider, which was tiny, and then she didn’t come back to ask if I wanted more after I drank that tiny bit.

My older parents drove down 3 hours to come see me for Thanksgiving day. I took them here last year. And they loved it last year. The place was packed. There was great energy and atmosphere, they had cooks outside cooking on the BBQ’s, they had an extra tent filled with a huge banquet of food and desserts. Lots of staff helping and running around doing their thing. It was fantastic. This years thanksgiving had none of that and felt somber and a huge disappointment. Barely any food choices, barely any staff around. Only pumpkin pie for Dessert. I was looking forward to the same experience as last year. But we were greatly disappointed. I honestly felt like it ruined our Thanksgiving. My parents were not happy either.

And when the bill came, holy cow, $170 for 3 people, before tip, and that was with only one cider. I don’t mind spending more on Thanksgiving, but in no way was that worth $55 a plate with barely any selections or variety.

I should have known something was up when we arrived. Hardly anyone was there. Word must have been getting out. I wish I had known and taken my parents some place else this time. I don’t see how this place is going to make it. We will never go back there again. I feel sad saying that because I had thought we found a little gem last year. Apparently these are new owners, and that past experience is just a past memory now.

Went for Sunday brunch and it was absolutely amazing. The food choices were vast and each option was absolutely delicious. Their cocktails were amazing. The staff were so kind amazing and attentive (I even got one in a picture). And of course, the parrot house is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful.

I never leave reviews but this was odd as a guest. My husband & I wanted to try a new place for dinner instead of our usual. We saw pictures & a few positive reviews & wanted to try this place.

When we arrived we were quickly seated by a polite hostes & looked over our menus. When our waitress came over to take our order immediately she said ” we have new ownership, chef & menu”, “our reviews are terrible & no one from douglas county hardly comes here”. We looked at each, like that’s interesting lol. We’ll, we now know why. I ordered a grilled cheese burger & my husband ordered the parrot burger. With only 5 tables including us, we waited an hour for food. It was unremarkable & very bland. Same for his burger. The fried pickles for an appetizer was the best part of the meal. We tried to muster through it while being swarmed by fruit flies. I couldn’t handle it, we asked for our ticket & left. Very expensive & i feel they are trying to be a fancy restaurant with very poor food quality.

My husband and I came here for a belated anniversary celebration on a recommendation from a friend. Totally lived up to the hype — a quirky, fun, interesting atmosphere in a building with tons of history. The owner and staff were so welcoming and kind, and even gave us a mini tour of the place and shared all of the history. When they found out that we were celebrating our anniversary, they gave us a complimentary bottle of wine AND dessert! Not to mention the food was delicious!! Most definitely would come back 🙂
