Now let’s talk about the food. I don’t hand out praise lightly when it comes to fish and chips — I’ve had plenty — and The Oxbow absolutely nails it. The fish is fresh (brought in daily), the batter is perfectly crisp without being greasy, and the thickness is just right. Every bite tastes clean, balanced, and thoughtfully prepared.
And the tartar sauce? Possibly the best I’ve ever had. The fresh dill takes it to another level — bright, flavorful, and completely addictive.
Just when you think the experience can’t improve, the homemade Sticky Toffee Pudding arrives. Rich, warm, indulgent… the kind of dessert that makes you pause mid-bite and smile.
It’s rare to find food this fresh, homemade, and consistently excellent in our area. One visit and you’ll understand why people keep coming back.
Well done, Oxbow. Truly.
The service was friendly and efficient without any hovering involved.
My Guinness was a perfectly creamy pour out of the tap, and my wife’s Harp was crisp and tasty.
Our service was friendly and the setting is relaxed along the river.
The views and atmosphere were incredible, the food was completely off-the-charts delicious—but the real highlight of our visit was, without a doubt, the owners, Ray and Alyssa. They were warm, welcoming, and genuinely excited to share what they’ve built. Talking with them, you can immediately tell they’re seasoned restaurateurs with experience from all over the world—and that passion shows in every detail.
There’s a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson that says, “Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm,” and Ray and Alyssa are the living, breathing definition of that sentiment.
I already can’t wait to come back—especially on a Thursday or Friday for their Fish ’n Chips night. If this visit was any indication, it’s going to be phenomenal.
First of all, a charming location and decor.
Second, the people were delightful. I like to be playful and they kicked it right back. We had a wonderful time.
Third, the fish and chips were delicious. Definitely the best we have found in this area. Not quite the same as what we get in our favorite UK and Irish places, but pretty close. Absolutely worth a repeat visit! Highly recommended.
The food: We all ordered the fish and chips. The batter was visually beautiful and perfectly crispy, but it lacked any seasoning, leaving overall flavor of the fish quite bland. The peas were unfortunately scorched, with the burnt flavor overpowering the dish.
Service: While the initial welcome was lovely, the rest of the service felt a bit disconnected. There was a 20-minute gap between our couples’ meals arriving, and our server was fairly minimal with communication. This time gap between one couple receiving their meal and the other made it difficult to enjoy a cohesive group dining experience. We did mention the scorched peas to the waitress, but the feedback wasn’t really acknowledged.
Overall: It’s a relaxing spot with fair pricing. We really want to support this local gem, so we’ll be back—we’re just hoping for more consistent timing on the dinner arrival and a bit more seasoning next time!
