The Original Pancake House in Chicago may surprise you with its name and unassuming exterior. While it may appear to be a reasonably priced or hole-in-the-wall type of restaurant, don’t be fooled. The prices are just as steep as the restaurant across the street at the Chicago Thompson Hotel. However, the experience of sitting outside is delightful, with beautiful flowers surrounding you. The breakfast served here is good, with generous portion sizes. In fact, the servings are so large that you can easily share them with your companion. Just be aware of the little birds that may try to swoop in and steal a bite from your breakfast, as they tend to fly around the area.

If you’re used to have breakfast (substantial breakfast, not just coffee and some bread/bagel) before 11 a.m. and you’re in or near the magnificent mile in Chicago then this place is for you, reasonable prices, exceptional service and a great variety of dishes to choose from.

I ordered a coffee, it tasted burnt. I couldn’t get the waitress attention because she was too busy chit chatting with another table. She was resting her leg on a chair while at it. I asked the bus boy to have it removed. He kindly did. She never came to ask how was our food, i saw her next dropping the check….Won’t be coming here again. French toast was amazing by the way!

Amazing Pancakes! One of the best pancakes I’ve ever had and the crepes too. Cute little place, excellent food and great service. Only downside is they don’t take reservations so lines can be pretty long sometimes.

I order from this location all the time (only because it’s closest to me), while I don’t have many issues with this location I do feel like the guy answering the phone has a snarky attitude, even in person. My food is always decent but many times it’s very sloppy or just thrown together/wrong. Everytime I order my eggs scrambled medium with American cheese, they’re always scrambled hard with cheddar. When I call to ask for American I get a plate FULL of American cheese covered soft eggs. Disgusting!

Bustling breakfast spot that knows what it’s strengths are. Pancakes were fluffy, light, and tasty. I got the pigs in a blanket, which are pancake wrapped sausages. Very solid breakfast. My girlfriend got the eggs Benedict which was below average at best. Get the pancakes if you come here. It’s called the original pancake house after all. 7.3/10
