I had an extremely disappointing experience today (9/13/25) at this location of The Original Pancake House.

As someone with a severe peanut allergy, I always order the potato pancakes because they’ve been safe for me in the past, and I’d even consider myself somewhat of a potato pancake connoisseur. Today, however, they were inedible. After eating just half of one pancake (out of eight), I noticed a startlingly bitter flavor. To make matters worse, the potatoes inside were completely undercooked and very crunchy. I was finding potato bits in my permanent retainer in my mouth for the next hour.

My server was excellent — attentive and understanding — but my interaction with the manager was unacceptable. She insisted that the pancakes were “supposed” to be like this, as if I had no idea what they were supposed to taste like, then told me to pick something else off the menu. When I asked if they had an allergen menu (since this is the only thing I’ve ever safely eaten here), she said no and dismissed my concerns by claiming that “tons of people with peanut allergies have eat here,” despite the menu having a warning about peanut allergies on it. She then offered to comp the pancakes (of which I ate less than 1/16th) if I didn’t want to eat the pancakes— essentially leaving me with no safe options or inedible food, while I watched my friends eat.

Overall, it was an incredibly frustrating and disappointing visit to a chain I usually love. See the first photo for what I was served today, and the next four photos for what potato pancakes at other Original Pancake House locations have looked like over the past year, because, yes, I am a huge fan of these pancakes and know how they should taste. Trust me: you’re better off at any other location.

The Original Pancake House in Plymouth offers a great breakfast experience. I had the Corned Beef Hash with a side of fruit, and it was absolutely delicious, especially with a touch of hot sauce and ketchup. The coffee was decent, nothing extraordinary. The place was lively on a Friday morning, and I appreciated how the menu had a wide variety of options and listed the calorie count for each meal—helpful for making informed choices. While the calorie counts were surprising, it’s great to have that transparency. Our server was friendly and attentive, checking in multiple times despite managing several tables. Overall, a solid spot for breakfast!

I’ve been to many breakfast joints and this one was for sure the best I’ve ever been to. The food tasted sooo good. It all seemed to be of very high quality! And perfectly cooked. Not sure if the orange juice was freshly squeezed or not but sure tasted like it.

Nice warm and cozy pancake house with comfort food. They had a nice fireplace going and it was snowing. A perfect spot for breakfast / lunch.
They have daily omelette specials. I had the chili cheese. The other time I had the Sicilian. Both enough for 2 people for sure. I couldn’t even finish
the chili cheese one it was so big. Chocolate chip pancakes get me every time. I would like to try pumpkin or banana. They have about 20 or more kinds. Today I had the grilled egg salad and it was perfect!! Nice folks here too and very clean!

I would recommend joining the waiting list before heading out to the restaurant. There are plenty of options for food. Limited options for coffee. The food was overall tasty. The O.P.H would have been better if the goat cheese had been spread throughout the souffle omelet and not only in the center. This might have been a mistake that day since it was really busy. The pancakes were enjoyable.

Our server was an older lady. She was absolutely amazing. Very easy to connect to, and she went the extra mile to provide top-notch service. Breakfast there is always delicious plenty of options for everyone. Generous portions, as well. One of my favorite breakfast places. Also, they have multiple locations across the nation. Each location has the basic menu, but has different options as well.
