Do Better
Haven’t been to the Old Toad in way too long and I will be going back! Miss the Cask Ale and The Battered Onion Rings of yester year but the fries knocked it out of the park. Extra crispy just as I ordered and you’d be surprised in this city how many places don’t care how u order but the toad does! My man had the Shepards Pie came with a small portion of fries and rpasted veggies it was very good and piping hot! Because I’m an ex owner operator of a couple restsurants lol i noticed another table order the shepards pie and they had way more fries and veg but look it happens and we we’re full regardless! I had the small goat cheese salad with a basket of fries with really good quality cheddar and bacon on top. The beers we had were Franziskaner Hefenweizen and Old Speckled Hen both very heady on top had to ask for top offs once the foam settled and the young lady was kind enough to do so. Everyone needs to go to to The Old Toad everytime we walk by on what should be busy nights there’s less than a handful of people and there is no reason for that! Let’s lift up this place and flood them every night that they are open with crowds they used to have! Ya I know everyone misses the students with the English accents working there but times have changed! The Old Toad is still super cool and we need them in this city! Cheers to the Old Toad! Maybe one cask ale and those beer battered onion rings with some music could be a remember when event or something fun! I’ll be there this week regardless! Cheers P.S. I’d love to help the owner out I’m available and have the heart of an entrepreneur and the work ethic of Rosey the Riveter let’s make this place theeee destination!!!

Food is just okay from what I’ve had. Not bad price for amount though. Atmosphere was great, would go here again for that, but food did not blow me away. For great British food try out the Sheffield not too far away.

Went for a birthday dinner. Saturday night. The place was almost empty. Thought maybe we made a mistake. Service was very friendly. We ordered and when our food came we couldn’t believe how good it was! Can’t understand why more people weren’t here on a Saturday night. We will definitely be back!

Love the Old Toad! My wife and I have been coming here for the past 23 years. It never has let us down. I really enjoyed my dinner tonight. It was a Yorkshire pudding with sausage and gravy, mashed potatoes and veggies….along with a Guinness…. perfection! My wife had an IPA on tap with chicken strips and fries (love that there’s vinager on the table for the fries)… probably the best fries I’ve had in awhile. It’s a very relaxing setting too, makes me feel like I’m in England.

We love The Old Toad! We live several hours away, but anytime we find ourselves near Rochester we try to finagle a way to eat dinner here. It reminds us so much of living in Europe… It has that old world charm, and the ambiance just takes us back. The food is great. Not an extensive menu but everything on it is amazing. The beer selection is great as well. Some good European imports, some craft beers and a couple domestics for those who choose to partake.

Great vibe and nice staff. There isn’t a ton of drinks but they have great options. The food took a while; I think they’re understaffed because the place is up for sale. Fantastic shepherds pie (has salt in it so watch out if you have high blood pressure)

Absolutely horrible. Service was bad, then I ordered Fish & Chips. Basically if there’s anything a British Pub should be good at…it’s this dish.
After a 45min wait, no mention that she was sorry for the wait, it comes out. Small portion, mid temp on the 7 fries ( Chips ) and the fish was pathetic. Soggy and painfully cooked. Not even fully cooked. They had 45 mins!??!
I took it to go and threw it away. Old Toad I’m embarrassed for you. I went there to support local restaurants, what a disaster.

Myself and two of our staff came here on a chance night when visiting Rochester. The staff was excellent (we got served by Nina). It was also a coincidence (or not) that this pub is also the official Arsenal pub for Rochester Gooners.

Amazing experience and if ever back in Rochester, will come back again.

A satisfying and scrumptious meal. Very filling British cuisine with some German Oktiberfest mixed in. Burger was delectable. Staff were helpful and friendly. Nice place for a meal out or a pint at the pub.

To my knowledge the only place in Rochester to get a scotch egg, and the only place that does actual shepherds pie with lamb (when made with beef it’s cottage pie). The beer selection is fantastic, the food is delicious, and the staff are always friendly and awesome! The only thing I wish is that the portions were a bit more generous.
