Visiting for the weekend and so glad to find this gem! Diana’s homemade with love cooking and service were a breath of fresh air. Fish Fry was perfect with large portions served with lovely fresh salad bar and homemade soups. Fresh baked bread was out of this world. IPA and Mandarin beers on point.
Check this place out!

Our group of Wisconsin geocaching friends crossed the border to meet up for dinner. The atmosphere was very nice and we felt welcomed! My burger was very good. I also enjoyed their specialty beer – Bourbon Bay Honey. While we waited for the food, we all enjoyed a bowl of soup and delicious fresh bread.
Please be advised they are unable to make individual checks and it’s cash only.
Come for the food and atmosphere but know that it’s only cash.

I do feel bad for the town of McGregor this past year because of all the construction and road closure. I was impressed right off the bat at this restaurant at the interior as it looked really cool and had a nice atmosphere. The waitress was really great at first. Until she wasn’t. We had 12 people in our group and one of them complained about one of the appetizers she ordered and from that point on she was annoyed with us. She literally argued with the customer about the dip. The chips had no seasoning and the bloody Mary was one of the worst I’ve ever had. The food was average and I probably would not go again.

We’ve never wanted to not finish a flight of beers before. It was paid for so we chugged them and left. They weren’t bad but they were not worth bragging about by any stretch. They kind of all tasted the same except the bourbon one. The bartender claimed the bourbon barrel aged beer was the number one selling beer in Iowa. If so, we’d probably have heard of it. Cash only, was okay but a little inconvenient. The atmosphere was great.

After camping at Pike’s Peak for five nights, we were very excited to see that some of the restaurants had begun to open in McGregor on Thursday. We were deciding between two local places and decided to try Old Man River for a late lunch with our two young kids. Having a special needs kiddo, we wanted to see the menu prior to eating there. Upon entering, there was only one table with patrons and five people seated at the bar. My husband went to the bar and stood for a few minutes, only to be completely ignored by the bartender who was busy showing videos on her phone to three of the people at the bar. We should have left then, as the vibe was telling us our presence wasn’t really desired by the woman behind the bar. After sitting down, the woman came over and without a greeting she asked us for our drink orders. We placed our drink orders and then when she came back, we we placed our food order. When I dared to ask for a different cheese on my burger, the woman stated, while giving me a glare; “ I created this menu and I hate when people pick it a part and make changes”. Fine. After taking our order, the woman went to the only other table in the restaurant and literally stood there and talked with them for almost ten minutes, with our order in hand – which included food for two hungry kids. The woman, was incredibly gruff, disinterested at all serving those in the establishment but made it very clear that she “has really high standards and it’s been hard to hire good help”…we are left believing that it’s not lack of people that has the place short on good help. When we were ready to leave, the two waitstaff on hand were not in the area and the man behind the bar said “I can’t help you, they’ll be back”.
The food, for the price, was absolutely not worthy of its cost, nor did it provide any redeeming qualities for the poor service. The beer brewed on site was mediocre as far as craft beer is concerned. The only saving grace was an amazingly kind woman working there who helped serve our table and was so great with our kids.
Long story short; our review, sadly, mimics the sentiments of others, which is that the place has fantastic potential, but the service of a single woman – who actually appears to be an owner, is the downfall of the entire place. Our advice: go elsewhere.

First time here. Jace was our waiter and he was excellent. Very knowledgeable of the drinks and the menu. We also heard him telling other couples about the area. Both the service and the food was very good. Their bread was amazing. Pictured is the Mississippi Burger, the salmon and the bread you get with a meal.
If you haven’t been here, we would highly recommend.

BEST BEER!!! I’ve been a brewer for 34 years and this is hands down artisan craft beer!!! Food was very good and reasonable. The staff were busting their butts to take care of the crowd.
I’ll be driving back again soon from Chicago… it was worth it.

I went to this place last month because my local friends invited me here, i was so disappointed. Never in my life did i ever have a bad experience as this one. Not only the vibes were already weird when entering, they were super rude and the food was MID. As we entered the people were not welcoming, which is only the start, we made a reservation and at first it took the lady a while to seat us, the attitude was insane and sassy. Also my friend recently dyed her hair and she is tan, the workers started making racist comments knowing we could hear them, mind you my friend is white. After this we wanted to leave but our food arrived, the food was okay the fries were good. Bad experience wouldn’t come back.

Michelle and I stopped in for lunch one Saturday. We met Greta Garbo and her family, and had some amazing food with drinks to match. Learned a lot about the history of the area along with the stories of the river boats and Jo Steamers. This is a stand out spot and a must visit place.
