Such a fun, semi out of the way place. Was staying in Melbourne with the family on the beach and wanted good food. After googling a bit, found this place on Google Maps. We came in the evening, so missed the waterside views, but the food was great and service even better. The drive down road by the water was very pretty at night. If we come back this way would go again. My better half loved the redfish, the kids loved the mussels, and the shrimp po’boy was fantastic. Forgive any spelling errors – it is the iPhone’s fault. Do not leave without trying the key lime pie. Did the FL Keys a few years back and these folks pie rivals the best pie in the Keys, which ironically we found at a pizza joint on marathon. (Not key west). Some photos of the food to follow.

I finally made it to The Old Fish House Bar in Grant Valkaria after having it on my list for a long time. Living in Melbourne, I do not often drive that far south, but it was such a beautiful day that it felt like the perfect time to go. The waterside setting is wonderful and the outdoor dining creates a relaxing and scenic experience.

I ordered the Reuben sandwich from the specials menu and it was excellent. It was very busy during our visit, which shows how popular the place is, but everything still came out tasting great. I was surprised to see the sandwich priced at over twenty four dollars on the final bill, so I would recommend being aware that some items can be on the pricey side. My husband had the hand breaded chicken tenders with french fries. He said both the tenders and the fries were excellent and the tenders were very large.

We each ordered a cocktail. He had the Super Margarita – it was strong and very good. I had the Pusser’s Painkiller. The flavor was great, but the chunks of coconut made it difficult to drink near the end because the straw kept pulling in the coconut pieces. It was not a complaint, more of a challenge, and I ended up not finishing it.

The outdoor seating has plenty of picnic tables and high tops. We were seated at a high top and enjoyed the view, but the flies were overwhelming, which made that part a bit distracting. Even with that, the service was excellent and very friendly.

Overall, it was a very good first visit with great food, strong cocktails, and a beautiful waterfront setting. I am glad we finally went and would return again, especially on a nice day.

We saved the best for last without even knowing it.

We have been to just about every restaurant in the area and on our final night in town we decided to try the Old Fish House and we were blown away by the food. Service was amazing, the location and atmosphere is hard to beat and the food was actually incredible. There are a lot of places in town with a similar feel to them but the food is what makes this place a must visit. Had the catch of the day (grouper cheeks) and the red snapper… both were amazing but I’ll be back just for the snapper. If I could visit just one restaurant in the area every time I’m here, it’s going to be this place.

We took a chance and stopped for lunch while traveling. We had the Grilled Shrimp, Hush puppies, beans and rice and key lime pie. Everything was fantastic! We will be sure to stop again.

Every month or so, my wife, friends, and I eagerly anticipate our Monday night pilgrimage to Old Fish House for their legendary shrimp special. Even though it’s a fair haul for us, the anticipation builds with every mile, and it’s always worth the drive. The fried shrimp special is, quite simply, amazing. Each plump shrimp is perfectly cooked – the batter is light and crispy, never greasy, and the shrimp inside is always tender and juicy. It’s the kind of dish you savor every bite of. Beyond the incredible food, Old Fish House has a classic Florida vibe that makes it the perfect spot to unwind and catch up with friends.

Wonderful spot right on the water. I recommend eating outside so you can feel the breeze off the river. The food is fabulous- try the ahi tuna appetizer and a margarita! It is a little pricey compared to similar restaurants but the atmosphere and quality of food makes up for it! And don’t forget to try the guava cheesecake and check out the Sanity store in the front for a gift
