This place is the absolute best! The service, the waiters & Mr.D is top notch! Y’all, the fried chicken is so amazing All the food on the buffet was so delicious & the peach cobbler with ice cream is some of the best I’ve ever had! If you haven’t been, then you owe it to yourself to make the trip to Lorman to get the best fried chicken hands down!

I absolutely love this place! Mr. D himself is character all on his on. He sings and you can feel the love there. Food is home country cooking off the charts and the best fried chicken you will ever eat! I love the old store atmosphere and remember to wash your hands before being seated! I also love that about this place. 10/10

The fried chicken was fabulous! We also loved the collard greens and cornbread. Buffet choices were great. Their cobbler with ice cream was sooo tasty. Our server was nice and friendly.

Mr. D has been frying chicken in this historic general store for thirty years. He told me he really cooks for himself but lets others enjoy it too!

The fried chicken is the star. Hot, crispy, juicy, seasoned well. The chicken is worth the trip.

The sides are what you expect. Salad bar, has the basics. Vegetable sides are again what you’d expect.

Save room for cobbler on the front end. It’s worth it.

Drove 3 hours just to try the chicken and then 3 hours back. Did not disappoint. Crispy, flavorful skin. The meat was juicy. Ate till it almost hurt. Cornbread was a touch too dry. Love the atmosphere.

Was traveling and came upon this place. Young lady working was very helpful. Enjoyed the atmosphere, used to actually be an Old Country Store so many items to keep your attention. Food was average about what you expect from a buffet. Fried chicken is what this place is known for it was alright. With the age of the building and items comes a certain smell. I believe it affects the food taste. Glad I went, not sure I’d visit again when in town.

It’s so cool when a place lives up to the hype. When you walk in you are politely asked to wash your hands if you are having the buffet. The service was very friendly and attentive. The fried chicken is world class with an incredible crunch and very juicy. Sides include most southern home cooking fare and all done to perfection. An excellent value for the money, come hungry!!

This was my second visit to The Old Country Store with 5 years in between. As with any spot like this, you’re coming for the venue and the food.

The setting, building, and people are more than worth the stop. We were mid week lunch for this trip and traffic was light and Mr D wasn’t there this trip. However, the people working were fantastic and the vibe remains great.

The food – All of the food I had on both trips has been good. All seasoned well, the selections are very traditional and welcome. While everyone talks about the fried chicken, I enjoyed other items just as much (yams, cucumber and tomato salad, cornbread dressing, hocks and greens.)

The Chicken – When fresh out, it is very good, almost like a cracker crumb crist, moist throughout and tasty. Pieces are also on the larger side than most spots.

As with any buffet – traffic dictates turn. When we first arrived (wednesday lunch), the chicken hadn’t been refreshed, was good and moist but lacked some crunch as you would expect. About mid way through lunch, they called fresh chicken and it’s worth the wait.

Would I drive out of my way for the food alone? probably

Would I for the overall within an hour of my route? yes

Some of the BEST fried chicken I’ve ever had! The store takes you back in time and the staff were all attentive and engaging! Bonus for us was Mr. D singing a lil’ love song for us at our table! Great way to start off 2026!

This place is the real deal. Best fried chicken and every side dish you love from the south. The peas and beans were also the star. It’s a don’t miss if you are in the area. It’s quietly world famous. And the manager sings to you as you pay your bill. What could be better than that?
