Old Bakery Brewing absolutely delivered. It was super busy because of Eagle Fest, but the service was still fantastic—friendly, efficient, and on top of everything. The food was excellent, and the beer was, as always, great.

I had the birria grilled cheese and it was phenomenal—rich, flavorful, and easily one of the best things I’ve had there. Even with the crowds, the staff handled everything smoothly, which really says a lot.

This place continues to be one of my favorite spots in Alton. Great beer, great food, and great people. Highly recommend.

Moving reviews over from Yelp. Originally published 12/28/17:

Really good burger but the side dish was lacking.

I enjoyed their burger of the week that came with some delicious beer-braised caramelized onions, a slightly tangy barbecue sauce and a hearty slice of provolone cheese. The patty was nicely seasoned, seared on a hot grill and had some of those crispy bits that make a burger cooked on a flattop grill so good. It was a good-sized patty (so few of the crispy-edge burgers are thick) and really hit the spot. The bun was sufficient enough to hold the whole thing and also toasted just enough to add a little extra crunch around the edges.

The baked beans, unfortunately, were a complete miss. I looked at the four side dishes offered and thought they looked the best but they came across as being straight out of a can. Too bad.

Last note…I liked being served a bottle of water and a glass instead of having to chase down my waiter for refills. Much better way of dealing with water for the table.

We had either burgers or patty melts, enjoyed them all. Fries were good. Larger open dining area. Industrial vibe.. Seat yourself. It is stand in line and order your food at the bar,.reason for 4 stars. Bartenders were friendly and line didn’t.take too long. They do bring out the food and bus the tables. Good beers and wife loved her drink. Also have merch and beers to go in cans. Would go back.

This was disappointing. My food was cold! My partner got a steak and egg breakfast burrito. That was good aside from the soggy mushy hashbrowns. It wasn’t cold. We both got sweet potato fries which are a 2 dollar upcharge. WHY WERE THEY COLD??? An upcharge and they’re cold. Woof.

My vegan chicken sandwich had so much opportunity to be great. The fried “chicken” patty was good… but it was COLD! The bun wasn’t rewarmed, it was cracked and crumbly. This could’ve been fixed by a smidge of vegan butter on a baster.

I’m really sad because this place seems like an interesting quasi-third space. I would maybe come again because the food wasn’t bad. It was just cold. And 20 dollars for a cold meal isn’t something I’m interested in.

Absolutely wonderful every time!! I absolutely love their seasonal specials – they always bring me back again and again without fail. The atmosphere is top notch and the service is phenomenal, the workers are so welcoming and accommodating each time I visit. On top of the on-point restaurant experience, they put on awesome events that are so fun, unique, and inclusive. Couldn’t recommend OBB enough!

We stopped in after sightseeing for a quick bite. For a Saturday it wasn’t to busy and we got our food about 20 min after we ordered. Everything tasted great, accept the house salad was so radishy for our tastes. We enjoyed the Beer Bacon Jam burger, PPJ, BLT, and the Brisket Sandwich.

Disclaimer: I didn’t get any beer here, so I can’t speak to that very important aspect.

Overall, this dining experience was good. There are no servers here, but the bussers and the guy at the counter were friendly. I really enjoy how sprawling this location is and the industrial atmosphere.

My food, though, could have been better. I ordered the fish and chips special, and it didn’t impress me. Unfortunately, my filet had a hint of dirt to it. It wasn’t enough for me to not eat it, but if I ever come back, I’ll never order that dish again.

This was our first time visiting The Old Bakery Beer Company. We decided to stop in on a whim for lunch. We are glad we did. My wife had fish and chips with a frosted lemonade. I had The Murray sandwich with potato chips and water. We did not try any of their beer so I can’t review that. I am a VERY picky eater. The sandwich was 10 out of 10 as was my wife’s order. The price was reasonable. The place was spotless inside and out. I spoke with a nice lady and told her this was our first visit so she gave me a card good for a free order of pretzels and cheese which is one of our favorite appetizers.

I’ve been here several times, and it’s always great.
Many food items are seasonal, but the rotating menu is always fresh and the flavors are great.
They also brew an impressive variety of beer, which is available to purchase in package form to take home.
Not to mention the incredibly cool venue, where you walk past the brewing operation in what actually used to be an old bakery to get to the main dining area.

I chose this place due to the clearly labeled vegetarian options. There are many choices both meat & vegetarian. There are unique choices and basic choices. The vegetarians enjoyed the bahn mi sandwiches. We all shared a vegetarian flat bread appetizer. I enjoyed a patty melt. Another person enjoyed a meatloaf sandwich. The fries were really crispy. The prices were reasonable. We aren’t beer drinkers, but the beer is organic and made here. I loved reading the about- the history of the building, how the bar was made, etc. The decor is interesting. You order at the bar, but the food is brought to your table. There were many tables in a large area. I imagine a large group could be accommodated. Very fun, casual environment.
