Really enjoyed my first experience at America’s Oldest Tavern. Menu has all the staples including a few unique options such as duck, alligator & ostrich. Salads, Burgers, Turkey, Meatloaf, Seafood. I got the Chicken pot pie. Historical decor and inviting ambiance. Great food and friendly staff! Large Parking lot.

We’ve been here several times and it’s always great. Awesome building and staff. We’ve had retirement dinners, birthdays, and anniversaries here. Tappan in general is very good for dining, there are a lot of great places to try out but this is one of our favorites. I wouldn’t get it on your first trip in, but the yankee pot roast is a great home styled dish that is amazing! The desserts are great, I like the apple pie and crème brûlée. Can be a little loud when at capacity, I like going on slower nights. Love this place!

The historic setting is well worth at least one dining experience here. Colonial charm radiates from every original plank and beam and you half expect George Washington to walk through the main entrance. The service is consistently good. The food is fine overall and a few things we’ve ordered over several visits stand out as exceptional including Duckling Hamilton, Grilled Flatbread, Chicken Pot Pie,The American Bread Pudding and The ’76 Tavern Burger which my husband talked about for weeks afterwards. There was a small mishap with one of the bartenders on our last visit which soured the experience, but the waitress and presumably the manager were quick to acknowledge and make amends without any prompting from us. That is unheard of in today’s dining landscape and appreciated. Depending on the type of live music it can be so loud you can’t converse without shouting.

The oldest Tavern in America and still a great place to eat. We went here for a Valentine’s day lunch and had a great experience. The food was excellent with a variety of menu choices. The service was good and for history buffs the atmosphere can’t be beat. Washington liked to eat here and Hamilton lived upstairs for two years wow. The food was the standout hot and delicious. We will be back.

If you have even a passing interest in American history then you must go here. Not just a meal but an experience. Benedict Arnold, John Andre, George Washington… All here, all at the same time. Here. Alexander Hamilton lived upstairs for two years (or six depending on the source). Have the same ale recipe that was GWs fave. Some of this is myth, probably, but the Tappan House really did see these figures. And the food is great! So is the service. So go. You won’t regret it.

What a charming and historic tavern! The Old 76 House was definitely a highlight of our time in the Hudson Valley. The atmosphere is rich with history, and you can really feel it the moment you walk in. The food was delicious, and the live jazz music by Judy Marie & Friends made the evening feel extra special. A perfect blend of great food, music, and ambiance—highly recommended!

Out annual visit to the 76 house is always a great pleasure. We are welcomed by the owner personally as we arrive in our period costumes having just completed a day at Historic Fort Lee. The service, atmosphere, and food are always top notch. Thank you for allowing us to bring some of the 18th century to life. And thank you for keeping history alive at your fine establishment!

This was our first visit to the 76 House and it was incredible! Everything exceeded my expectations. I’ve been wanting to go for years, and we just never made it up there. We finally decided to go for a special occasion and it did not disappoint! The manager, Meghan, and our server, Laly, went above and beyond to make our evening special and memorable. The building is beautiful, and full of history dating back to the Revolutionary war. There was classical live music that was enjoyable but not intrusive. The service was attentive but not pushy. The food was delicious – hats off to the chef. One of the best meals we had in years. The onion soup was perfection. My only regret was not getting the tableside Caesar salad! We were smiling the whole way home. This place is classic dining, reminiscent of an era when dinner out was an event, but current, and in a charming, historic setting. Thank you for such a great evening!

This place has so much history. The food was delicious. Had the chicken pot pie & shepherds pie. Both were incredible. Tom the mgr came over and introduced himself & intrigue us on the history of the place. They also had live jazz music playing which was enjoyable during dinner. Can’t wait to go back to try other menu items

My sister in law recommended this place while we were in NY! I wish it was closer to where we lived! The atmosphere was rustic. The ambiance inviting.. there was even a live band playing. The food was off the charts amazing. My husband, daughter and I shared the Faroe Isaland Salmon Terrine and the Cordon Bleu and loved every bite!
Everything about this place is what we love. Plus it’s the oldest restaurant in America, so of course, it’s a must for us! Looking forward to when we can go back!
