Diego was out waiter and he was amazing! Highly recommend ask for him! He even gave us some places to visit while we were down here in DC. Kairay was our sommelier provided the perfect wine pairing with our food! He was also very attentive and had a great personality! We came here twice I recommend if you want the best experience book the dining room. The lounger is very busy and they don’t have as much staff. They also have a coat check which we found out about our second time. We started with the honey biscuits! 10/10 get these biscuits you wont regret it. We did the 8oz filet mignon medium rare, potatoes, mac n cheese. The filet was cooked to perfection juicy and full of flavor we added the truffle butter to it. The mac n cheese waa my favorite side with crunchy top and tomatoes straight from the garden. Overall an amazing experience. A must come to when coming to DC!

From the moment we arrived, it was clear this restaurant delivers more than just a meal — it offers a complete culinary experience. The ambiance strikes the perfect balance between elegance and warmth, with soft lighting, tasteful décor, and an atmosphere that feels both intimate and sophisticated.
The service was impeccable. Our server Ronald B demonstrated deep knowledge of the menu and really put efforts to make this night special for us. We were so happy to follow all his recommendations and truly enjoyed every single moment of our meal. Thank you Ronald!!
A truly outstanding dining experience. Highly recommended.

Can’t go wrong with this place. Located inside the iconic Willard hotel. We had the steak tartare with caviar on top, pigs in the blanket, steak and eggs, Chinese chicken salad, French toast, and chocolate mousse. Everything we had was truly sublime. Service was good. Superb all around.

LOVED our experience at The Occidental. Truly a 5 star restaurant, hitting on both food AND service. The service was exceptional and makes this restaurant stand out even more among places that are charging high prices but not providing the experience to go along with it.

You CANNOT miss the biscuits, best we’ve ever had and the honey butter is to die for. We also liked the Caesar, it was rich but light at the same time. We both had steaks which were cooked perfectly and Brussels sprouts on the side that had an amazing flavor but I wish they were a bit crispier. The pink champagne cake is SO good, rich but not heavy. Also enjoyed the hot buttered rum and the Edmont cocktail was one of the best I’ve ever had. Can’t wait to go back!

I booked The Occidental after seeing a video online, and from the moment we sat down until we left, the whole experience was incredible. I had originally reserved a table inside, but since the weather was perfect, the staff happily accommodated us outside.

We started with a Cosmo and an espresso martini, then shared the wedge salad and lobster bisque — both were out of this world. For entrées, we had the 18 oz ribeye and the 8 oz filet mignon, both cooked perfectly. We finished with the lemon icebox dessert that our server recommended, and it was the perfect ending to the meal.

From the atmosphere to the food to the service, everything was top-tier. Definitely recommend and definitely coming back.

The ambiance and decor is very welcoming and a little on the upscale side most of the guests we’re a little bit more formal than casual. The oysters were great. The crabcake was a little bit on the salty side and the steak was delicious. I added the au pouvoir sauce which was actually not necessary at all and the brussels sprouts were nothing spectacular. Overall, the price range liens on the higher side even though it was lunch I paid over US$120. Service was lacking as there was only one waitress for all the section near the bar that I was at so I didn’t feel anything personal from her, although she was quite polite.

This was a FABULOUS experience. The room was super cool- Moni who’s one of the managers and on TOP of everything and all of her team were fabulous; there wasn’t a single person who wasn’t excellent. Then the food. It also was excellent. The sauce on the pheasant was one of the best we had ever had and we joked with Moni that we wanted to take it home with us and she generously offered a container to go. All in all it was a lovely night and fantastic dinner.

I had the most unforgettable dining experience at The Occidental, just steps from the White House! This place absolutely blew my mind from start to finish.

My server, Diego C., was the perfect blend of attentive and tactful ~ always available but never intrusive. His recommendations were spot-on, and I went with the filet mignon with Brussels sprouts with apricots and onions ~ perfectly prepared. Probably the best fillet I’ve had!

My cocktail, the Ms. Fitzgerald, was creative, refreshing, and unlike anything I’ve had before. For dessert, I chose the coconut cake, and it was heavenly! The layers were dipped in coconut extract, giving it the most luscious, aromatic flavor unforgettable. Definitely a shareable size.

The restaurant itself is gorgeous ~ a two-story establishment with warm, sophisticated energy. Even the restroom was a highlight ~ it smelled incredible and looked like something out of a luxury hotel!

In the middle of my dinner, the manager, Munira, stopped by to see how everything was going, and she was so pleasant and gracious. She genuinely cared to hear about my experience and made me feel truly valued as a guest. Her warmth and professionalism perfectly matched the restaurant’s elegant atmosphere and exceptional service.

I found out that after being closed for over a year and a half, The Occidental reopened in March 2025 under Stephen Starr’s ownership, and the results are spectacular.

Highly, highly recommend ~ 11/10! I’ll definitely be back again!

This is obviously a well known restaurant in the heart of DC, but there is a reason for it.

My friend and I are first time visitors to DC and reserved a lunch date here. From entering the restaurant to leaving, every single employee was kind, attentive, and personable.

Devon was absolutely amazing. Kind, attentive, and absolutely engaged with what we coined our “girl lunch”. She answered our questions with honest answers and suggestions and made our lunch date absolutely amazing. If the owners happen to read this, you have an absolute gem of a waitress working for you.

The food is admittedly pricey but Devon did not tell a lie when she said the crab cake was amazing. Absolutely delicious. The salad was also a large portion and the chicken was incredibly juicy and well seasoned.

The restaurant itself is stunning, with the sunlight streaming through windows and dinner rooms cloaked in velvet – this is the perfect eating spot.

We’ll definitely be returning.
