This was a decent cafe, it has good food choices and coffee with inclusive options. There were some food quality issues (biscuit tasted like chemicals, I’m guessing too much baking soda) but overall solid food and a nice environment. I’d recommend it for a no frills breakfast spot or for coffee. Lots of space for meeting people or doing work.

I only tried the cinnamon roll which was pretty good! Wanted to comment on the fact they have an Outdoor version eating space & have changing tables and a stool for little ones to reach the sink to wash their hands in the bathroom. Appreciate the kid friendliness of the space. And right around the corner from a great little park as well! I didn’t see a specific play area when I went in December, but a mom told me that they have it in the summertime. 🙂

Pretty much just yum all around but not quite great. French toast was my fave thing we tried. Good flavor, sweet enough and cooked well, not soggy. Also had a raspberry choc chip scone. I was asked if I wanted it hot, I said yes and she put it in a toaster, still cold when served. It was fine but the greatness lies in the details. I did like the atmosphere and all employees were kind, efficient and fast. We completed our feast with the two eggs, potatoes, bacon and whole grain bread. I liked the potatoes, very flavorful if a bit salty. The bacon was just not my preferred type. Hard like Jerky but not salty enough. Yeah I am picky about salt but it makes or breaks. I ordered a cappuccino which was ok. Not very hot when served and more like a latte. I sound harsh but I had a nice time there and left full and happy.

The New Deal gets me: offering good food AND good coffee all in one place, at a reasonable price. Gone are the days of going through the drive through and then to brunch, just head to New Deal where you can get it all! The scrambles are exactly what I’m looking for (hearty, with fresh veggies and that delicious chicken apple sausage) and their rotating specials keep things interesting. It’s a small detail but I love that they don’t skimp on the toast and offer two full slices, and leave the butter and jam on the table. This is also where you’ll find some of the most flavorful hot sauces (don’t miss the smoked mango habanero), and of course, ketchup. What else could you want? Well, besides table service, but it’s a luxury I’m willing to part with. Overall, a new favorite! Go ahead and get yourself a punch card, you’ll be needing it!

Placed a to go order and they didn’t include any sauce for a meal that contained 3 different sauces. We called them three times to no answer and eventually left a voicemail to try and rectify the situation. They never called back. Food was incredibly bland without the promised toppings. An expensive way to ruin what could have been a nice weekend brunch.

First off the food was amazing. I had the grilled cheese with the tomato soup and chips. I also got the hot cocoa with whipped cream with vanilla. While it was pricey I feel like it was all worth the price tag. Secondly the service was great, everyone was very friendly even though they were busy. Third the atmosphere was your pretty normal coffee shop but again despite them being busy everything was incredibly clean. The only complaint is that there was quite a long wait but that’s not thier fault and shows that they’re very popular for a reason.

Certainly the worst breakfast I have ever eaten in the city of Portland, maybe the worst breakfast I have ever eaten in my life. We have eaten here many times over the years. I would never have called it a must eat, but it at least passed the test on the basics. Not the case any longer. Bacon snapped in half and was somehow room temperature, biscuit made me wish I had been given a Pillsbury biscuit cause that would have been closer to a biscuit than what I was served, and the “chicken apple sausage” was like flavored sand poured into a sausage casing.

Only saving grace was the dirty chai, it was a revelation worth having again. And my kids did enjoy their French Toast.

Dear Owners, it’s time to replace your cooks with a team that knows how to cook breakfast. After years of being a patron, I will not be back. Though I will take home my leftovers, maybe the dogs will eat them.

Very neat and fun brunch spot. The scrambles all look so good and the Mediterranean Scramble was delicious. Also tried the Bacon Latte, which was a tasty and interesting drink – almost like a buttery latte, sweeter than a usual latte but also savory flavor.

Great food for breakfast! Order at the counter, where there is a big menu. I got a scramble of the day, which had onions, peppers, mushrooms, (veggie) sausage, and sundried tomato pesto. I got a side of potatoes and a biscuit, which were very well done. My accomplice got biscuits and gravy and complained of soggy biscuits from the overly wet gravy. Also unfortunately, the cooks messed up my order the first time by putting in the default sausage instead of veggie sausage (I’m vegetarian). Overall, very good experience and also local hot sauce at every table!
