To be clear:
• I ordered plain wings intentionally as a neutral baseline. “Plain” does not mean exempt from critique. While the overnight brine was explained in the response, the end result was still unremarkable to me as a guest — and that opinion is valid.
• I was told the Mozambique sauce is authentic, rooted in Azorean tradition. Authenticity does not automatically mean every guest will enjoy it. Taste is subjective, and disagreeing with a flavor profile is not an attack on culture or heritage.
• I commented on the bread service based on what I experienced at the table, not on assumptions about sourcing. Explaining ingredients after the fact doesn’t change how it came across to the guest.
• I never claimed the menu was fine dining — I pointed out a disconnect between whimsical decor and menu identity, which is a branding observation, not an insult.
Most concerning was the statement that nothing I criticized would be changed. That tells future customers that feedback is only welcome if it’s glowing. Even more telling, this response was directed at what appears to be the only non–5-star review, which raises serious concerns about how criticism is handled.
I didn’t have a terrible meal. But the response to my review showed me everything I needed to know about the customer service and mindset behind the restaurant. For that reason alone, I will 100% not be returning.
Stop #2 on the RI Food Fights Wing Tour brought me to The Neighborhood Tavern, where I ordered the plain wings to get a fair baseline.
Overall, I was underwhelmed. I didn’t have a bad experience, but nothing about the visit made me want to come back.
The food feels like a great concept with poor execution. The wings were fine but forgettable—nothing that stood out in texture or flavor. I also tried the Mozambique sauce, and as someone with Portuguese blood, I have to say it missed the mark entirely and didn’t resemble what that sauce should be.
The bread service didn’t help either. A frozen baguette and oil that would’ve been better left at home added little to the meal.
The space itself is a bit confusing. The lambchop and sheep photos are funny and playful, but the menu leans upscale, and the two don’t quite click. That disconnect carries through the experience.
I didn’t leave hungry, but I didn’t leave impressed either. Not terrible—just not memorable, and not a place I’d go out of my way to return to.
So I bought the food fight coupon booklet for this month. It’s sandwiches. My first stop was neighborhood table and bah. There is plenty of parking, which is always nice. I was blown away by sandwich sizes. Beautiful place very welcoming. Very large! I opted for a table rather than the bar. They sat me in a quiet little area with nice ambient lighting. Fire roaring in the fireplace. I wish I had brought a book honestly! The staff was so pleasant. I witnessed a pain in the butt customer whom they handled with grace. They were on top of everything. Clearing my dishes, keeping my drink filled, and even packaged my leftovers for me!!!
Okay, okay, enough about all that onto the good stuff. The menu. The menu is just as ginormous as the establishment! They had something for everyone!!! There are so many options!!! For an appetizer, I got the pretzal bites covered in garlic parmesean and a delicious beer cheese dip. For the sandwich, I got the hot maple southern fired chicken on a bulky roll. The prezal bites were so soft with so much flavor. The beer cheese was a tasty touch!! The hot maple chicken sandwich was not as hot as I expected. Mild bite to it. It’s not a bad thing, though! It was cooked to a perfection crispy on the outside juicy on the inside. The bulky roll must be made by them?! It passed the squish test (push down and see if the bread springs back or stays down)!
I brought a smoked gouda burger home for someone. Of course, I had to try the fries while they were warm. Crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. Each piece coated in some harmonious blend of seasoning. He also commented on the hearty helping! He said his burger was “good” …teenager boys… what do they know i said it was probably better than good! A tasty Gouda burger is a perfect balance of flavors… where the rich and creamy melt of Gouda cheese complements the savory, juicy beef patty. Based on looks that’s how I would describe it if I were him!
Truly blown away by the size and quality of the food. I have already told friends about this place. I will absolutely be back. This place alone makes me glad I got the food coupons! Led me to an absolute gem!! This place is gonna be hard to beat ! The “bah” is so high I need a ladder!
Really friendly and efficient service.
The bartender made a delicious cocktail – Sheep wrecked on vacation. I picked the version with cucumber and jalapenos, and it was awesome.
The food starts with appearance – and the chef worked on it! It looked great!
And tasted great too!
Heart warming chowder was really needed after a hard day.
And we loved their specialty lamb, as well as a daily special – sea bass.
