So mad I didn’t discover this place earlier. By far the best local bar with great food and welcoming atmosphere and staff. Cozy is a key word here, with a real fireplace by the bar. The warmth of the fire with an ice cold beer cant be beat. The owner John, is a gentleman. This establishment has a special place in my heart. Top notch.

If there was a real “Cheers” bar, I can see this being close to it.
The customers seem to be mostly older locals, but the bartender and chef are very friendly, attentive, and welcoming. They cook right in front of you as the grill / stove are behind the bar area.
Prices are very reasonable with plenty of bar seating as well as tables surrounding the bar.
I enjoyed the working fireplace especially on a chilly day.
Street parking is plentiful.

Nestled in a residential neighborhood, the munkee bar is a nice neighborhood bar that definitely shows its been there for a while. Recent renovations are evident giving the place a nicer appeal. The bar features indoor drinks and dining, tables (no table service), and outdoor seating as well as a place to smoke and keep your drink. The taps are clean and crisp. The chefs prepare all food behind the bar which is visible, which is nice to see how clean they are. They have a nice sized menu of foods and apps that are always available. They also run about 10 specials per day for food. Staff is always curteous. Parking is available on the street but I can see it being an issue during busier hours. Music volume as at a level you can talk over. The bar has ac and isn’t afraid to use it. I’ve eaten about 15-20 different dishes and would say the food is on par dining establishments between casual and fine.

The drinks were good and reasonably priced. The atmosphere is a neighborhood dive bar. It’s nice to unwind here every so often. The chicken sandwich was ok. The wait time for the food was a bit excessive but it matched the food prep setup. I’d definitely go back to try daily specials in the future.

Was craving a quesadilla so me and the guys decided to come to the famous monkey bar in south amboy, Hector is the man! Great cook, i got a sweet and tangy quesadilla omg so amazing so much food it put me in a food coma, him and Alissa are great! I would recommend it to anyone who wants a good food and good atmosphere! Best food around and super reasonable! You have to try it!!
