Restaurant on George Washington’s estate serving Traditional American fare in a Colonial setting.

Lovely restaurant located within the grounds of the historic Mt. Vernon plantation; home of president George Washington and his wife, Martha. It has a very large dining area, which was packed as well as a smaller dining area by the bar. The menu had a lot of variety and is based off of what the menu and original recipes served during that time period. I enjoyed the buttermilk fried chicken, which was great, mashed potatoes and topped it off with a cherry pie. I sat at the bar, which seemed like the bartender was pulled to assist in the dining area so there were lapses of time between my wait to order and my wait to pay.

One of the best meals we’ve had on our roadtrip. The prices were reasonable – we averaged about $40 per an adult for our dinners and dessert (just drinking water). The filet was one of the best I’ve had – the portions were perfect to have room for dessert. The flourless chocolate cake ended the meal perfectly. Hubby had short ribs and cheesecake which he thoroughly enjoyed. Our waiter Steve was great as well. We highly recommend this as a place to eat if you’re in the area and want a nicer meal. We were there on Saturday night in October and it wasn’t very busy in the room we sat in. We were the first table sat and it seemed like the other two tables that came were locals going to eat which says a lot about the restaurant. We saw a huge group of students arrive after us and signs for a wedding yet our service was spot on and quick. If you’re debating eating here while visiting Mt Vernon we highly recommend you stay to eat.

This hidden gem serves up white-glove service without the white-glove price tag. From land to sea, the menu surprises in all the right ways—and the staff? Truly next-level.
Crab cakes: 10/10 No filler, just juicy chunks of seasoned crab. I’m still dreaming about them.
Whipped potatoes: 8/10 Hot, buttery, and perfectly salted.
Green beans: 9/10 Snappy and spot-on.
Filet: Ordered medium, arrived flawless.
️ Appetizer highlights:
Grilled okra (7/10): First time trying it—mild, seared, and served with a dipping sauce.
Potato wedges (7/10): Crispy outside, steamy inside, with a peppery kick.
Fried green tomatoes (8/10): Big, luscious slices with a light batter. A personal fave.
Bonus: There’s a private dining room and porch seating. Think fireplaces, wood floors, vintage wallpaper, and period charm galore.
Michael and Raliegh, managers, provided impeccable service. Stephen, our server with a newly minted MBA, was fabulous. Polite, attentive and efficient. White glove service!
Mt. Vernon, you’ve outdone yourself. I’ll be back.
Don’t forget to ❤️ and follow!

Enjoyed dinner at the Inn after a day of touring Mount Vernon. Our group of 4 had cornbread, butternut squash soup, chicken and waffles, and shrimp and grits, All of us enjoyed our food and the quiet atmosphere. Great service too. I highly recommend.

I took my mother to the holiday tea on December 27th and overall we found the food very disappointing. The photo on their website shows sandwiches and scones that are twice the size of what you actually receive and the bread for the sandwiches was stale. The food came out within five minutes of us sitting down so they clearly prep everything ahead of time, which is fine, but the bread had been cut way too early. There was only a tiny bit of jam and butter for the scones, and there was no cream.
On the positive side, our server was very nice and attentive. The tea was very good – we got the holiday blend. There was live music from the period that was well played but a little loud for the small dining room.
Overall I would say that the experience was not worth the price.

food, prices and selection are great. I like that they have many round tables for larger group. Took a bit to get our food and our server was very busy. Thinking a bit short staffed. The blackened catfish sandwich was great, large piece of fish on a tasty bun, lots of pickles, tomatoes and lettuce. Good ice tea. The table and feel was nice felt a bit Cracker Barrel-ish; it’s even attached to a gift shop. This is way better than the food court at offered just around the corner. Nice place we missed our scheduled tour for this but everyone was happy with the food.

We found Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant delightful! The ambience and charm was great, we didn’t think the food would be good because it was tourist type place…but boy, were we wrong!
The food was great! The portions were over the top, the salad was super fresh, the soup was delicious, the 1/2 sandwich was really big…fresh salad, fresh tomatoes, bacon and bread were good too! Victor (our server) was calm, helpful, always attentive to our needs…the hostesses up front were so nice from the first time we walked in the door. Fresh white wine good red selection as well as an open bar with top shelf alcohol.

This would be an excellent all American restaurant even if it weren’t attached to the historical site. The Old Fashioned cocktails were delish, and the turkey pot pie was so filling I’d suggest skipping lunch if you’re having an early dinner. Both salads were refreshing. Thanks to Ms Elsie (who has been with the restaurant for 26 years!) for kind and patient service, always making sure we were relaxed and taken care of. It’s nice that Mt Vernon Members get 10% off the bill (20% first visit then 10% after)

Listen – this place is awesome. The food is top notch. Prices are higher than they should be, but they’re competing with real, not tourist, restaurants 2 miles up the road.
However, as a member, where the menu says a 21% discount “joining today” vs a realist 10% discount for established members is totally unacceptable.
Especially when you have typos in your menu.

As I perused their website, I was captivated by the rich history of this location, which stretches back to the time of George Washington. My curiosity piqued, I decided to pay a visit and indulge in a leisurely brunch.
Upon arrival, I was greeted by a warm and welcoming staff. My server, Akouele, went above and beyond to ensure my experience was enjoyable. I opted for the Colonial Cornbread, which boasted a delightful texture and flavor, and the Crab Benedict, artfully presented with crab meat and crisp bacon. The combination of flavors was simply irresistible, making for a perfect brunch experience.
