Visited on Friday afternoon (the day after Christmas). It was not crowded and there was no wait. They offer an $18 buffet, but since most items were non-veg, we ordered à la carte.

Manchow soup was hot and tasty (they have 1/2 option too), and the veg spring rolls were nicely crispy. The garlic naan came with butter, so vegans should clearly mention no butter. Tandoori roti was not available and was marked as limited, which was a bit disappointing.

The veg jalfrezi tasted good but was too oily. The Gobi Manchurian was excellent, it was crispy, dry, and perfectly coated with spices and sauce. Definitely a must-try.

Overall, a good place, but clearer vegan options and ingredients on the menu would help.

I’ve only been in Indianapolis for less than a month, and this was my first time trying an Indian restaurant here. Honestly, I was really impressed.

They have lots of food choices. The naan is freshly made in the back, and you can choose between butter naan, garlic butter naan, or plain naan. I ordered the garlic naan and really liked it. I haven’t tried the other types yet, but I think they’d be good too.

There are many curry options like Chicken Tikka Masala, Butter Chicken, and Chicken Curry. They also offer three kinds of rice, and I liked all of them.

My favorite dish was the chicken curry because of the rich flavor and amazing aroma from all the spices. It was so good that I had to order it twice. Some of the other curries were a bit sweet for my taste—I don’t really like sweet food.
The Tandoori Chicken was tender and flavorful, and I also really liked the Dynamite Chicken. It was something different that I’ve never had anywhere else.

For dessert, there were two choices and a Mango Punch drink. I was already too full to try the desserts, though.

The staff were super friendly and kept checking to see if we needed anything. They even gave a cash discount, which was a nice surprise.

Overall, great food, friendly service, and lots of choices. If you’re in Indianapolis and want to try Indian food, I’d definitely recommend The Monks Indian!

The Chettinad with goat was delicious. Savory, great flavors, goat fell off the bone. Garlic Nana was perfect. Great flavor, slightly crispy on bottom…chewy on top. And the menu has so many options…I wish there was a sample platter of some kind!

I have had tandoor chicken 1000 of times. This is by far the worst tandoor I have tasted. I had to use the paper to get the oil away from the chicken(please refer the pics). Could not eat more than one piece. I left the food as is.
Tandoor and Fried chicken are two different things. I know this dish is served differently other days. It was snowing heavy and the restaurant only had our table. Might go back and try but this was bad.

I’ve visited The Monks many times, and the food is consistently good. Unfortunately, the service has always been poor. From the start, it’s unclear who your server is or whether the staff walking around are attending to all tables.

During my visit, I had to get up three times to find someone to ask for a drink, a napkin, and a naan. About 80% of the time, any team member passing by my table didn’t make eye contact, and the remaining 20% would ask a question but leave before finishing, which makes the experience frustrating.

It’s a shame because the food is good, but the service falls short. I even had to delete my previous 5-star review to provide a more accurate reflection of my recent visits.

Good place for Indo-Chinese “street style” food. Gobi Manchurian noodles were a favorite. Ambience isn’t great, but given that it’s primarily a takeout place that’s not a big factor. Big portion sizes.

This was an Indo-Chinese Fusion Restaurant. We are vegetarian and we had many vegetarian items to choose from. We were a group with 5 children and 9 adults. We called for reservation about 5 minutes before our arrival, and they had made a quick arrangement to accommodate us in such a short time. That was service at its best. I thank them for a job well done! The food was awesome and we didn’t have a long wait.

Tasty Indian food with generous portion sizes. The garlic naan and the channa masala were bit too oily for our liking this time. Otherwise, everything was good. Their cilantro-lime soup is my favorite!

Greeted, seated, and fed within fifteen minutes on a relatively busy night. The lamb vindaloo was possibly the tastiest I’ve ever had, and I’ve enjoyed this dish well over 100 times in different restaurants in different countries. Wonderfully flavorful. I ordered it extra spicy (assured the server it wouldn’t be sent back), and they delivered. 10/10. Polished it off with a tallboy of Flying Horse.

Absolutely loved the food here! The Gully Chicken is a must-try—perfectly cooked and full of flavor. I also highly recommend the street-side noodles; they have that authentic, smoky taste you usually only find at the best roadside stalls. Quick service and great vibes
