Good sized restaurant, excellent bar. All of the plates came out with a lot of care to the flavor. We loved the ribs (on special, not always on the menu). I had the Tavern Burger with green chile and bleu cheese. It was a risk but 100% worth it as the bleu cheese and green chile combined into a really good flavor. The fries, regular and sweet potato, were both great. Thanks!

Highly recommended for good reason! Friendly and welcoming servers in one of the coolest historical taverns around. Consistently gorgeous plates cooked to perfection continually leave the kitchen. The kitchen crew are truly superheroes! We e visited multiple times yet even on a busy holiday there was always a table for newcomers. The Cantina side has covered outdoor seating. The Mad Chile Burger is truly a work of art and a sensation on your tastebuds! Chopped green chile and a crisply fried green chile tops it. Paired with another crisply fried green chile, fries/ sweet potato fries or coleslaw. We enjoyed the wagyu-med rare & the buffalo- rare. Both were delicious but I lean towards the Wagyu which is flavorful & raised just up the road. The Green Chile stew with beef brisket has heat but not the “burn you to death spice.” I couldn’t resist a slice of carrot cake to top off my happily packed tummy. Guaranteed returning guest! Side note- grabbed a T-shirt that must have been “balloon fest” priced at $35 without tax? While a server stated they’re normally $25…
The drinks are pro prepared along with a wide selection of local brews.

Fun spot with great, welcoming servers. Menu was good and food delicious. Cute decor on the main road in Madrid. Great gem shop across the road also!

This restaurant is approximately forty miles from albuquerque up north 14 to madrid. It is a beautiful scenic drive from Albuquerque. It is a great way to spend half a day shopping and dining in Madrid. The restaurant had great food! One of the best green chili cheeseburgers around. It came with a chili relleno and french fries. They had a great selection of beer and drinks. The place is clean and the atmosphere is fun. The staff was attentive, professional, and attentive. I highly recommend this as a destination. Restaurant from albuquerque.

Fun place with lots of photo ops. We sat outside by the locomotive under the roof in open air. We had a large group. Everyone liked their meal. I had Christmas enchiladas. When I ask if the sauce was hot and spicy, they said not really. I’m a wimp so it was spicy!!!! Just sayin’ if you are, too. Christmas means they give you both red and green sauce for those non locals from the northern states. Everyone else loved it tho! Tough parking, but great spot to shop the shops when done. The movie “Wild Hogs” was filmed down the street.

Located in the City of Madrid – made famous by the movie Wild Hogs (because it brings so many people to Madrid now!).
But this establishment well preceded Hollywood fame as a local watering hole for miners.
This restaurant has the a cantina side (with outdoor seating) and the older saloon side.
Food was very good. Enjoyed the fried Chili appetizer . The burgers were very large and delicious. Given you are in New Mexico, all the burgers come with green or hatch chili’s.
Comfortable old time atmosphere that feels a bit from the 1800’s.
You will enjoy it.

Don’t come here expecting a good cocktail, or you will be sorely disappointed. Didn’t eat anything so I can’t comment on that. Fun atmosphere though, there was a pretty good band performing the night we were there!

We stopped here while passing through Madrid on Labor Day weekend, and the whole town was buzzing! The tavern itself wasn’t too busy that we couldn’t find a seat. We weren’t expecting too much once we sat down, but we were pleasantly surprised at how good everything was!
The food exceeded expectations for sure! I got the BLT, which also had avocado on it and it was amazing. So were the fries! The food was amazing and we had wonderful service from Alex!

Made the short drive to Madrid while visiting SF and it was worth it. A very historic and eclectic bar/restaurant with good food and drinks. The service was excellent and the appetizers were had were delish (we had about 4 of them, can’t recall which ones but we enjoyed them all). Would definitely recommend if in the area!

Always love a good local experience.
The wagyu beef mushroom burger was excellent, espresso martini delicious.
Sara Dee was not only a great server, knowing I was low on gas in this rural area, she kindly helped me find the best route to the nearest station. Thank you.
If you’re passing through Madrid, dine here. Highly recommend.
