Large restaurant with romantic lighting serving American fare with subtle Italian influences.

The Milling Room is good, the decor is interesting enough, the staff attentive and the food well presented and cooked. It’s sort of a “hearty meal” in that there’s plenty on your plate and lots of meat. It’s actually a very good restaurant and if you are nearby it’s a worthwhile choice… In general the meat seemed more compelling than the salmon which is what I had.. In general though it wasn’t very differentiated or creative…

The Milling Room is a genuinely enjoyable dining experience overall. The atmosphere is stylish and well put together, creating a great setting for a meal, and the service is attentive and professional throughout. The food is where there’s room to grow — it’s good but not exceptional, and feels like it hasn’t quite caught up with the quality of everything else the restaurant does well. Still a very worthwhile visit and a place I’d return to.

I don’t know where to start. Went for Valentines day. Waited an hour before an apetizer come. It was a tiny little single bite, a “snack” they called it, with a sip of broth. Two hours after arriving the entree came out. Lamb Wellington. Three small bites of lamb in soggy pastry. They offered us a free drink for the wait, but I was just hungry. We left. Im at a great place around the corner getting dinner with my girlfriend. After spending over $400 at the Milling Room to wait and listen to excuses Im glad we went somewhere else! The location was very nice. The wait staff did the best they could. The kitchen sucks. I’d never come here if I were you. I wish someone would have warned me.

From what I understand, they’re going to start a remodel on the interior of this restaurant and in the meantime, they have a pizza baked at the curb outside by some fantastic chef, but when we got there at 8:45 the pizza was off the menu as they ran out! That left us very few choices for us to eat. we had hibachi which was very good And peas on straciatella. They didn’t even have bread! the bread that they did end up bringing us after we complained a few times was hard as a rock. I hope the remodel goes well. I don’t wanna dash this business to bits, but you should not go there until they’re done remodeling mid July. We left very hungry.

The Milling Room is an absolute standout! From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by a warm and elegant atmosphere—high ceilings, beautiful skylights, and a spacious yet cozy dining area that makes you feel welcome and relaxed.
The service was attentive without being intrusive, and the staff genuinely seemed to care about making our experience special. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and offered great recommendations.

I found The Milling Room as i was searching for somewhere to carry my wife for her birthday. Usually, when I give a review, I speak firstly about the sights and the sound, but this time, I need to mention the chef. I had the steak. It impacted every one of my senses. The aroma is intoxicating, and it tastes superb. All in all, it’s one of the best, if not the best, steak I have ever had. Complimented by romantic setting and the professional staff. You made our visit an experience. Thank you

My wife and I have both worked in the service industry, so it takes a lot for us to leave a negative review. We go out for Thanksgiving dinner every year in New York, and unfortunately our experience at The Milling Room this year was the worst we’ve had.
The service was the biggest disappointment. We were never offered bread, which we only realized at the end of our meal when we noticed other tables receiving baskets. Our pre-dinner cocktails were never cleared, even though we had finished them well before our entrées arrived. We actually wanted to order wine with dinner, but ended up having to flag down a server halfway through our main course just to get someone’s attention. Even our table was missing a light—small detail, but noticeable in a dim room where every surrounding table had one.
The food itself was good, but we were surprised that the $115 Thanksgiving prix fixe didn’t include traditional sides. The turkey came with only potatoes, and we were charged an additional $45 for stuffing, brussels sprouts, and cranberry sauce. The portion sizes—especially the tiny serving of cranberry sauce—made the $14-per-side pricing feel unreasonable. It’s hard to understand how a Thanksgiving prix fixe can consist of turkey and a spoonful of potatoes unless you pay extra for basics.
In total, we paid $450 for two people and left feeling deeply disappointed. We’ve had far better Thanksgiving meals in NYC for less—and with far better service. As neighborhood residents and longtime customers of The Milling Room, we expected a memorable, well-executed holiday dinner. Unfortunately, this experience fell far short.

Milling room is a very underrated gem tucked away in UWS, right across from the museum. I’ve gone for both happy hour (every day from 4:30-6:30pm) and dinner: both are excellent. Happy hour is in the front at the bar, the menu is solid and the bartenders are always on their A game. Dinner is in their majestic, large dining room in the back and is one of the most visually appealing places to dine in the city (in my humble opinion).
For happy hour, get yourself a $10 cocktail and pair it with their burger and fries combo. The cocktail is super high quality and a great deal considering that an equivalent elsewhere runs for $15 or higher. The burger is up there with the greats. Will def back back here many more times.

If you want to experience a 5 Star Restaurant in France go to the Milling room on the upper West Side , A1 Service by Moussa & Staff. What a wonderful dinner I had with my family. The service was impeccable. Our server was so knowledgeable about the menu and took his time to explain each dish that we were curious about. The staff is excellent! Moussa the manager made sure we were well taken care of and came to our table multiple times to ask us if we needed anything else. The cocktails and food were absolutely delicious! The Chef Florian Hugo did an amazing job bringing wonderful fall flavors to the new menu. I highly recommend the Besos Caliente cocktail, the Tomato Feuillete appetizer, the prime striploin steak and the bourbon apple tart for dessert! If you’re looking for delicious French fine dining the Milling room will exceed your expectations! Absolutely fantastic 5 stars!

Ambiance and service were great. I was here for brunch at 11:30am and it was very sleepy, which is great for conversation. The food and cocktails were OK/good, nothing special, but it was also reasonably priced so would return.
