I’m gonna say that this was a great first time experience at this upper Westside location. My daughter had the lobster mac & cheese, the smoked Gouda flavor was delicious and there were large buttery chunks of lobster. Great deal for the additional seven dollars. Husband had the striped bass special, and every speck of it disappeared off his plate. I had the Seabass from the menu, on our waiter’s recommendation, and it was delicious. (Though the accompanying side salad was unremarkable). We also shared a kale Caesar with chickpeas and the portion was very large. It was enough for all three of us to share with our entrées. I love a restaurant that gives you a carafe full of delicious New York tap so that you don’t have to keep asking for refills. This was the case. Very crowded, but the ceiling design meant that the noise was muffled and we could easily hear each other. We went a little early, as we had a show date, and I was surprised at how many children were in the restaurant. So if you want a more adult experience, I’d recommend making a reservation after 7 PM. And by the way, definitely do make a reservation. It was very crowded when we were there.
Wonderful waiter as well. He was super tall and handsome. Bonus!

We were excited to hear that The Mermaid Inn was opening ip a new location on the upper west side at 335 Columbus Avenue and we recently had a delicious dinner there on a Saturday evening. Our waitress, Victoria M. was wonderful, helping us review menu options. Since we arrived for our 5:15 dinner reservation, Victoria encouraged us to take advantage of their “ Happy Hour” menu, so we were able to start with less expensive glasses of wine and a delicious artichoke dip appetizer! We had asked for a quiet table and while the restaurant was packed, we were able to converse and hear each other! Everything we ordered was delicious and the service was excellent!

The Mermaid Inn Upper West Side

Last time we visited The Mermaid Inn was during the Summer 2025 and we had a great time. On Wednesday January 7 we went to celebrate my wife’s birthday. It was for a party of five even though, the original reservation was for four people.

The Service & The Place:
Everything started wrong from the get go. It was a Wednesday, the restaurant was not that busy at all and the host took a long time to finds us a table. Plenty of tables available until we left around two hours later. We were sitting at the back of the restaurant as opposed to the main dining room. It was extremely warm and it felt cramped. However, the worst part of the evening was our server Timothy. He was rushing us at times (To get the order in) and he forgot about us sometimes, that we had to ask other staff members for help. We had a bouquet of flowers and ask our host to get us a small container with water to keep them fresh, she said “we don’t have anything to accommodate that.” Ask the server and he said the same thing, didn’t even said that he was going to try. I went and asked someone else and he got me a small soup container that did the job. Not happy at all with the service.

The Food:
We ordered the “Whole Sea Bass,” great as usual. The Chatham Cod, Fish Tacos and French Fries were also okay. For dessert, we had the “Bread Pudding,” it was dried even though, it had ice cream. Our drink, “Superstitious Sailor,” was very light. Our “Shirley Temple” was mostly ice with less than a quarter of the drink.

This time around, we were very disappointed of the whole experience. We live in the neighborhood and have been eating in this restaurant since they first opened in the area, Amsterdam @ 88 Street. Hopefully our next time around is a totally different experience.

“Eat deliciously”

The Mermaid Inn was fabulous, as usual. Yummy food, an atmosphere of celebration and joy, and attentive and efficient staff. I visited this time with my wife and a friend. We had originally reserved an indoor table however, the weather was nice and we sat outdoors. We started with the “Parker House Rolls.” My wife had the Branzino and our friend and I had the “Pan Seared Chatham Cod. The food was well presented, a combination of grill fish, crispy outside and very tender inside, and a base of tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, simply delicious. We also had the Pinot Grigio, excellent as well. The Mermaid Inn delivers again.

I have been going to The Mermaid Inn for 20 years and can say it’s one of my favorite, most consistent restaurants in NYC.

The new location on the UWS is a beautiful, cozy spot with the usual fantastic food and service. From the moment you walk in and are greeted by the host, the experience is flawless. My kids and I loved our brunch (especially the shared Banana Carmel French Toast).

Thank you Mermaid team for another memorable experience.

This place generally rocks. Have been to multiple locations at varying times and for different occasions, and the service is consistently great. It is usually packed to the gills but dont let that deter you, you should be able to get in and served rather quickly. I frequent their happy hour (“Mermaid” Monday is all-night) and find that to be good value given the pricing and portion size. The menu is fairly pricey/borderline expensive and you can be taken-a-back when the happy hour clam chowder comes in a ramekin with 2 bites for $6…but I digress. Overall I keep coming back here for the quality of the food and the service, regardless of what I think of how expensive it is. Menu highlights: the seafood tower, the calamari, any-all raw bar, and the hot-dirty martini

This place is absolutely incredible from the service to the food which offered relatively affordable price prices for fresh & cooked seafood. I would recommend the wedge salad that I added salmon to & the fingerling potatoes. Our server was D’Angelo and he was absolutely awesome with my food allergies and provided excellent service for us!!!

Side note, it’s hard to find a place that truly will cook medium salmon and this restaurant did that well. The drinks were also fantastic for happy hour and the pink flamingo tasted like strawberry lemonade!!

Bethany took excellent care of us, great suggestions on what to order, perfect service and even sweetened up a glass of prosecco when my mother said it was a bit too strong for her personal tastes. High quality seafood flown in from main and well executed concepts. Worth another visit as a regular spot in the rotation.

Had the French toast and eggs lobster Benedict.

We came in without a reservation around 6:15pm on Thursday and the place was packed- the hosts were beyond accommodating by offering us 2 options – wait 20 min or be seated, or get seated and gave us the time they would need the table back-
We chose to be seated and from the moment we sat down our server Charles was just on it!!
He was so welcoming and super familiar with the menu- and wine- literally made us feel like we were family as weird as that sounds… he just exuded great energy and kindness and made our experience memorable.

we went with shrimp Coctail which was just okay, but our mains were the stars!
The lobster roll overflowed and had a kick to it, the sea bass was just so fresh and light, the fish tacos made my mouth water while eating and the wedge is my new fav wedge in all on NY!
Also the rolls in butter are a must!

Will def be back for tacos and Charles!

I recently visited The Mermaid Inn and was immediately greeted by warm, welcoming hostesses who set a positive tone for the evening. Their hospitality stood out and made us feel right at home.

The waitstaff was attentive and friendly, though it seemed like there was some confusion—perhaps due to a new opening. We were approached multiple times with the same questions, likely a result of the team still getting into sync.

As for the food, the crab rolls were just okay. I was hoping for a bit more crab meat to really bring out the flavor. The lobster roll, unfortunately, didn’t quite hit the mark—it tasted a bit salty and lacked that fresh, ocean-sweet flavor, possibly due to being frozen…?

All in all, The Mermaid Inn has potential, especially with its great front-of-house staff. With a few tweaks in the kitchen and some smoothing out of service kinks, it could become a solid seafood spot.
