The Mermaid Mule was expertly crafted. The sweetness and ginger elements created a perfect balance in this well-prepared cocktail.
The Pork Fritter was truly the star of the show. Tender meat with hints of smoke and heat, complemented by a delightful creaminess and perfect crispy exterior. The well-seasoned fritter came with two dipping sauces that paired wonderfully both individually and combined.
The Chicken Chesapeake featured a juicy chicken breast topped with a flavorful crab dip spread. The bread-to-topping ratio was well balanced, with a quality bun and fresh ingredients throughout.
I also tried the Mac and Cheese side, which impressed with its cheesy richness and properly cooked pasta. While the upcharge felt slightly steep for the portion size, the quality was satisfactory.
For dessert, the Chocolate Peanut Butter Explosion Cake, though not house-made, was rich and decadent. The peanut butter mousse maintained a light enough texture to avoid overwhelming the palate, and the cake itself was moist and flavorful.

We pulled into the only available spot in the parking right out front. There seemed to be more on the side/next door.
Staff was super friendly and helpful with taking out order to go. We wanted to get back on the road as we had a few hours of traveling to go before our next hotel stay for the night. They were very patient with inducive kids (and adults). Even let my youngest get a 50% pink lemonade and 50% starry combo for their drink.
We ordered the Pork Fritters which were very good with the orange sauce. The Chicken Chunks (Garlic Parmesan) were just meh and probably would not order again. Wife ordered the Country Cobb Salad and loved it. She got 2 different dressings to try, ranch and a raspberry vinaigrette I think… We also got The Southern Burger which my middle one gobbled up so I assume it was good as I didn’t get a bite. My youngest got the Kid’s Fried Shrimp with fries (comes with drink and apples). I also did not get to try any as it was gobbled up and I assumed it was picky kid approved. Also ordered the Cream of Crab Soup which was pretty good. Was hoping for some larger amounts of stuff in it. It was a bit more liquidity than I was expecting but made it easy to drink while driving. Also got the soup of the day which was Cajun Sausage Gumbo. It was definitely much more hearty and filling than the Cream of Crab. Both soups were a solid “good”. I think I was expecting a little more soup for the cost. More of a value thing which was the same for the chicken chunks. They were okay but not worth the price.
Our food took maybe 15 mins to be prepared. There was seating inside and outside to wait. They also had merch for sale at the front counter including many cute earrings. We were also surprised by the quality of the takeout containers. Not the cheap styrofoam but he nice sturdy hard plastic. Works so much better for traveling with.
Bathrooms were also nice and clean and spacious. The wife also mention the nice helpfulness in the women’s restroom. It would be nice if more establishments provided similar accommodations.
Other than the slight disappointment with the chicken chunks, we would totally come back again to eat if we were in the area visiting Claytor Lake State Park or even driving by at the right time on 81.
