The food and drink menus are extensive, so we were really spoilt for choice.
The starters were very tasty, and good value for money.
The mains were a mixed bag. I had a king prawn dish, but the prawns were very chewy and overcooked.
What spoilt my evening was not the overcooked prawns, but the obvious vaping of another customer in the corner of the restaurant. At one point, he vaped pretty much in clear view of one of the serving staff who later claimed not to have seen it.
I have a problem breathing in vape fumes in public, but inside a restaurant is not ok. You cannot always affect people’s behaviour, but the vaping was pretty blatant.
Sorry to say that this will be the last time I go to this restaurant, as nice as all of the staff were to us.
The Pakoras, nans and Jalfrezi were made fresh with great quality ingredients very tasty.
Highly recommended! 5*****
Place is packed.
Not a coloured person in sight.
Good level of spice, I asked for medium instead of “slightly spicy”, just not enough to give you a kick. Spice was more spice than flavour.
Rice very tasty but naan was undercooked, bengal restaurant which is great to see an advertised speciality, however a shame to have “standard” beer.
All in all a good quality of curry, spice and flavour mix could be better refined. Positive to see a speciality in “Indian” food.
Unfortunately, the experience was let down a bit by the service. Our waiter mixed up the order and didn’t seem particularly attentive or apologetic. While the issue was eventually corrected, it took a bit more effort on our part than it should have.
That said, the quality of the food made up for the rocky start. We’d go back for the food alone – just hoping for a smoother service next time.
The curries themselves were delicious, especially the lamb bhuna, and the naans and rice were cooked brilliantly too. The cobra served here is ice cold and tastes delicious, and the brandy is great too. The atmosphere now it has been re-done is brilliant, and really provides a unique feel whilst sitting inside.
Overall, I cannot recommend this place enough. It has and will always be my go to place for an Indian in Shrewsbury – this review has been a long time coming! Thanks.
‘Roti’ was literally a supermarket tortilla, I called them and asked for a refund.
