Good food… breakfast and lunch although some lunch items not available until later in the day but unfortunately, signage doesn’t specify –
Condiments can get messy and flies can be a pest with nothing to deter them –
Seating is VERY limited and seating area can get dirty quickly with no one cleaning –
If no special event in room next to hall, seating is available but still very sparse
Staff works quickly but there needs to be additional staff cleaning

Stopped in for lunch on a mission for a crab cake. Ordered the 2 crab cake plate with fried green tomato and coleslaw.
Crab cake – 4/5 nice size, real lump crab little fillers. Beautiful crust. Seasoned. Satisfying. Could use a little lemon juice or remoulade sauce. I didn’t care for theirs- Tarter just okay
Green tomatoes-4/5 Good breading and flavor.
Coleslaw -4/5 good solid coleslaw

I was actually excited for the buckwheat blue berry pancakes. Am a big pancake fan, I don’t do cheat meals and usually stick to eating at home. So I do have high standards. These were okay. They were fine. Not bad but I have had better ones. So much better.

I love The Market Lunch! I’ve been coming here since 2016. My go to meal is the pancakes and a side piece of whiting. I use to go multiple times throughout the week and ended up building a rapport with the staff. They’re so sweet! I didn’t go for almost 3 years and upon me returning they still recognized me. The owner is super nice too, he pops in every now and again. I did try something different today, the avocado sandwich. I wasn’t a fan! It was very dry. It was a thin layer of avocado spread, one fried egg, two slices of tomatoes and spinach. I’m sure someone may like it, it’s just not for me. It lacked flavor and I’m glad I ordered the mix drink because I was very parched while eating the sandwich. I won’t get it again. I’ll stick to what I know. Oh, the crab cake is good too!

This time, I had buck wheat blue berry pancakes. Which sounds simple, but they’re exceptional! Buy so is their crab cake Benedict and chicken and waffles. It’s hard to go wrong here. Check the blackboard for daily specials.
Be warned on weekends, the line can be really long. I suggest going early. They open at 8AM, I think. Also, the only seating is a communal table or the picnic tables outside.
Then go walk it off and enjoy the rest of Eastern Market.

What a great experience. The gentlemen in the cashier is great! He is super funny and gives you the best suggestions, so you better listen to him :p We really enjoyed the atmosphere. The food is delicious: the crab cake Benedict it’s amazing… They are famous for the blueberry pancakes (delicious as well). The service is great, very nice staff, convenient location and good prices. FYI: This place is cash only, so be prepared 🙂

I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed this on Google Maps. This is one of my favorite breakfast places in Washington. Tommy has been running this place for decades. They’re famous for their pancakes “blues“ and “blue bucks“ – but there’s so much more. Try their Brick sandwich (egg, cheese, bacon, potatoes on a bun), crab cakes, shrimp and grits, etc. Everything here is delicious. There used to be an hour wait in line on Saturday mornings. Since the pandemic, the lines have been shorter. This is a genuine DC hangout for locals. You will see a diverse crowd here – like you see on Capitol Hill in general. It makes me proud to live here. Long live Market Lunch!

Excellent food with a food hall food truck-style vibe, with an excellent, but pricey, à la carte basic short-order breakfast menu. Service can be slow. Although it’s not a brick and mortar restaurant, the menu prices should be lower, considering the low overhead and labor costs inside the market. The Eastern Market and Capitol Hill neighborhoods are now affluent enclaves, but there are ways to work around this to achieve the lowest imported labor costs, which, in theory, should be passed on to the customer. Nevertheless, this is an excellent tourist attraction, worth a visit, perhaps once a year for locals, or monthly if you have the means to do so.

Situated inside the Eastern Market, this establishment offers both breakfast and lunch. They only have one table with two chairs that are falling apart for those who can’t sit on the tall bar stools in a tight corner. Not small children nor wheelchair friendly.
I would recommend the rockfish and the crab cake. We decided not to get their orange juice as it isn’t freshly squeezed.
I tried the rockfish breakfast, with a warm buttered bread roll, a piece of deep-fried fish, potato hash, and eggs cooked to your preference. It was delicious, but we weren’t fans of the scrambled eggs.
The blueberry buckwheat pancake was loaded with berries, but the butter was overly salty, creating too much contrast with the sweet maple syrup.
We also purchased uncooked crab cakes to fry at home, which were fabulous! There’s a small discount if you buy 4.
