We had gone here a year ago for the early bird menu and it was great. We were seated outside. So we decided to come back and try the regular menu for a special occasion. What a total disappointment. The tables were very cramped together. The service was adequate, though we felt sorry for our server as she had so many tables to serve. But the hugest disappointment was my partner’s main course. His meat portion had to be sent back twice because it just not done enough either time. We didn’t make a fuss about this either time and our server didn’t offer anything either. We will never return. Sign of a great restaurant? You decide.Medium? The top is good, the middle is rare and the bottom is raw. Ugh!

Located in a very quiet area and very nice setting . The food is good and presented nicely. The appetizers are good and the main dishes are tasty with a good choices . The rustic decor and atmosphere is charming but still the tables are well set gives the restaurant a touch of elegance. Would recommend it for a group looking for good food with a rustic atmosphere and a small touch of class . Well priced and great staff and service .

I’ve been coming up to Crystal Lake every summer for 30 years and today was the first time I ever ate here… all of those years wasted between the fresh vegetable tray, homemade bread, and the skinny dippers I was hooked! Don’t even get me started on the salad and prime rib… exquisite meal! DELICIOUS! We found our new “go to” restaurant!

On vacation and first time dining at this rustic, tucked-away restaurant. We had 5 adults and just had very good luck in being seated after a short wait in the outdoor area on what appeared to be a very busy Wednesday evening in July. The service was short-staffed, but our server was pleasant and efficient under the circumstances. The outdoor dining area is beautiful and comfortable.
The food we ordered was consistently well-prepared, well-seasoned and delicious. The artichoke dip was the best I’ve had. The whitefish, shrimp, crispy fried chicken and grilled pork chops were all excellent. Our only disappointment was the taste and smell of the water served. It may have been helped with a good water filtration system.
Overall, a wonderful experience, more expensive than we typically spend, but worth it!

My wife and i came here for our 1-year wedding anniversary tonight. We absolutely loved it! She had the nutty trout and I, the seasonal perch, battered and fried. This place is really in the middle of nowhere – 30-45 from TC, but if you’re staying at one if the resorts, campgrounds or B&Bs nearby, the Manitou is a must-visit. The food is outstanding, the service wonderful and the ambience cozy.
We loved the coziness and appreciated the great service. We’re very impressed and will definitely return next time we’re in the area! ❤️

We had a delicious experience at the Manitou.
After a day of sightseeing and adventure on the coast, we decided we would like to have a fish dinner and did a Google search for whitefish dinner near me, and The Manitou came up. We drove to the restaurant, having never been before, and the parking lot was packed. Cars were lined up down the road. We made a quick call because the restaurant does accept reservations to see if they could get us in. We arrived on a Wednesday night at 8 pm.
They said they could take our party of 5 immediately! This was a great surprise.
The atmosphere was exactly what we were searching for. Something that screamed Northern Michigan fishing lodge. It was perfect as we were showing friends from New Hampshire all the Michigan charm.
They had lots of fish options, and we opted for the Walleye, Whitefish, and Perch dinners. We also had the oyster appetizers. Everything was so delicious. We were really pleased with the choices and the service.
Thanks for a great meal!

This place is a gem! Started with the whitefish appetizer, it was so good I ordered one to take home. Perch dinner was the best I had in a long time! It was perfectly prepared and not overcooked. The Northwoods salad with the cherry vinaigrette was delicious. Finished off with some key lime pie. Manitou did not disappoint.

Maybe I had this built up to much in my head about how many people had told me that yellow perch was fantastic. Tonight was my first experience and I was extremely disappointed. The breading around some of the fish pieces was so greasy and soggy and the fish just did not have much taste. The salad was fantastic. My wife got the chicken breast sandwich and said that it and her fries was fantastic. My baked potato was extremely small but tasted fine. Just another personal preference is that when you order a baked potato with butter, sour cream and chives is that it comes to you with that on it. I received the potato with little packs of butter that had to be opened. Maybe 6 of them. Sour cream in a plastic cup and no chives at all. For $31 for the fish plate I just expected better. I would try this place again. Just not the yellow perch.

Saw a recent review about the Manitou and its precipitous decline over the last couple years and then it vanished like a day later. It was spot-on it its sobering assessment of what has happened what was really the only decent dining option after 8:00 pm in Frankfort.
Not sure if it was a former employee or family member who wrote it but it deserves to be seen by prospective customers. I’m pretty sure the owners of the place pay to have reviews that they disagree with removed. Perhaps their time would be better spent trying to fix the problems causing the poor reviews instead of trying to remove them.
Our family has spent it last dollar at this place.

Many of the fish entrees are fried or sauteed. Hoped to avoid those calories. I didn’t ask about broiled or baked options, perhaps should have. Otherwise, the food was good but a bit pricey for the area. The wine list was very good with lots of options and quality wines. The service was paced well, we didn’t feel rushed.
