Mallard Coffee Co. is a small, thoughtfully placed shop near the river and within easy walking distance of the waterfront. Street parking is limited, but they offer a patio out back with outdoor seating, which adds to the charm.
I ordered the “ham & chz,” which was simple, flavorful, and perfect for something quick and on the go. The coffee is clearly high-grade and premium. They source their beans from June Coffee & Roasting Company out of Birmingham. While they don’t roast on site, they offer both espresso and drip coffee. The 16oz size is for drip coffee only and comes out to $5.45 all in, making it a great option for a quick in-and-out stop. The “Bourbon Capp” is also a popular holiday favorite this December.
They offer three main cup sizes: 8oz for cappuccinos, 10oz for lattes, and 16oz for drip coffee. My total order—which included coffee with extras, the ham & chz, a sticker purchase, and a $1 tip—came out to $16.00 even.
The owners focus on creating a community-driven, small-town-friendly atmosphere, with soft oldies music playing in the background. Quality food, excellent coffee, fair pricing, and a relaxed riverside vibe make this a solid stop.

This is a cute little place, especially if you’re a birder. The decor and atmosphere are fun and comfortable; they even incorporate a good merch selection and have a rack of vintage clothes.
The mocha was one of the best I’ve had, and the almond pastry was absolutely phenomenal.
…and you *must* visit the restroom for a little surprise.

Very cozy coffee shop with great tasting coffee. The attendants have always been very kind, and I recommend coming here. Definitely worth going out of your way to come to a shop like this, as opposed to the many big name corporate coffee shops like Starbucks, 7 brew, or scooters.

Adorable little coffee shop. Seating outside is nice. We got the blueberry matcha and it was amazing. Also the coconut latte as well. Service was great! The bathroom is so cute and calming as well ❤️

We stopped in Decatur on our drive from Illinois to Florida simply because it was convenient. We went to The Mallard on our way out of town and had an amazing cup of coffee. The quality of the coffee is all that I actually care about at a coffee shop, but I have to say their entire brand is so well-crafted. The swag is high quality and well-designed. The staff are kind and efficient. There’s a little thrift clothing rack in the back of the store. And the bathroom is designed like a bird sanctuary (bird calls included). It’s a vibe for sure – makes you smile.
We decided to stop there a second time on our drive home and found out they sell June coffee which is a roaster out of Birmingham. When we got home we ordered a bag of beans off The Mallard website and I added pics of how cute the packaging was! We drink a loottttt of coffee and this place is doing it right.

I love this new addition to downtown Decatur!! Just visited for the first time today and had an excellent Earl Grey Espresso Latte. It was perfect! We also got some of their house made chicken salad and it was SO GOOOD. Next time I want to try their pimento cheese I was also very tempted to buy some mallard merch, overall great vibes, great coffee, and great service.

Coffee was rich and flavorful! It was excellent coffee, far beyond the occasional mediocre cup of coffee you find at coffee shops. The atmosphere was pleasant, too. You gotta check out the restroom Just trust me. Beautiful flowers outside, cozy and comfy pillows inside, a fun mug, coffee art, friendly service. All the things that make for a great experience.
