Had a fantastic dining experience — the food was excellent overall and full of flavour!

⭐ Fish Nirvana – 5/5
Rich, perfectly cooked, and easily the standout dish of the meal.

⭐ Beef Deep Fry (BDF) – 5/5
Absolutely delicious with bold spices and great texture. A must-try!

⭐ Pineapple Mango Salad – 4.5/5
Fresh, vibrant, and a lovely balance of sweet and tangy.

⭐ Kerala/Malabar Porotta – 5/5
Soft, flaky, and paired beautifully with the mains.

Mango Shake – 3/5
Decent, but didn’t quite match the wow factor of the food.

Overall, an amazing meal and definitely worth a visit for the Fish Nirvana and BDF alone!

After moving to Ely a few weeks ago, we were searching for good Indian food in the area. That’s when we came across Malabarikh Atelier, which introduced authentic South Indian flavours to Ely few months back. We’ve since tried a variety of their dishes, exploring both vegetarian options and beyond, and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
We loved their Lamb Biriyani and masala dosa. Should definitely try these dishes if you are in Ely. If you fancy some fish, I would recommend to try Fish Nirvana- an absolute masterclass from the chef.
Also try some regional mocktails and cocktails with a South Indian twist to everything. We always find time to visit them whenever we are in the town centre.

I had a wonderful experience here. The food was absolutely delicious, with authentic South Indian flavors and a great variety of dishes. The restaurant has plenty of space, so it feels very comfortable, and the ambiance is warm and welcoming. Everything was neat and clean, including the dining area and serving plates. I also appreciated the good selection of plates and serving options for different kinds of food. Overall, a perfect spot to enjoy tasty South Indian/,indo Chinese cuisine in a clean and pleasant setting. Highly recommended!

The food was excellent, and although it took a little longer to arrive, it was worth the wait. However, the service experience did not meet expectations. While there were experienced staff present, our order was taken by a new team member who seemed unfamiliar with the menu — for example, she did not know the difference between Lacha Paratha and Malabar Paratha.

It was also noticeable that senior staff and the owner appeared to be paying more attention to non-Indian tables. As an Indian customer, this gave me the impression that we were not receiving the same level of attention, which was disappointing.

After we finished our meal, the table was not cleared until we requested it, and the senior staff member we asked did not seem happy to do so. In hospitality, attention to all guests and prompt service are key to creating a positive experience.

As someone who has been in the hotel industry for 20 years, I would recommend providing better training for your team and ensuring that all guests are treated equally. With well-trained, attentive staff, your excellent food could be matched with equally excellent service, leading to greater customer satisfaction and long-term business success.

Really excited to see Keralan food arrive in Ely. It’s still early days for this restaurant and it showed in a few teething troubles.

Our starters – aubergine fry, BDT and vadas – took a while to arrive and arrived a few minutes apart. They also tried to serve my main course before we’d received the final starter.

The tables for two are a bit small considering the plates are oversized – there wasn’t enough room for plates, drinks and starters, leading to an awkward game of table Jenga. In time it might be an idea to get bigger tables or smaller tableware.

The food, though, was DELICIOUS. Well spiced, well seasoned. Crispy vada, fluffy on the inside, came with a hot curry gravy for dipping. BDT were tender pieces of beef dry fried in spices and curry leaves, but you could still taste the meat. Parotta bread crispy and light with defined layers. Biryani and Chatti Choru again tasty and well spiced with lovely meat, pickles and herby fried egg. Just couldn’t finish as we’d
ordered too much! We will come back to try more.

The Malabarikh Atelier is located on the iconic place in Ely. Been here for the first time and had an average experience. We’ve been waited for the food nearly an hour and the taste is not impressed at all. Service here is not bad.atmosphere is very cozy and authentic interior.

Ouch! Never has a place showed such promise on opening but then gone so far off a cliff within months.

Starters were good but service is absolutely dismal. They just don’t understand that plates should be cleared before bringing out the next course. Or the need to bring cutlery. Should have to repeatedly ask for it?

Mother-in-law crab special was appalling (see photo), about 20p worth of crab meat (and didn’t seem to be particularly safely cooked) and sold for £15. We had that taken off the menu, but there was barely an apology, in fact the free pint of beer I was promised was firmly there on the bill at the end, and a request to take it off as was promised, met with a shrug.

Portion sizes are grim and please, how exactly does an Indian restaurant manage to run out of paratha? Do they not just make it then and there?

Ely locals who visit and support Ely restaurants week in week out, but this is one that we won’t be bothering to return to.

Squid starter was amazing! Mutton Biryani was very good & to come with the bread & poppadom too included in the price is a nice touch. A different and refreshing type of restaurant in Ely. Cocktails nice & strong too! Will be coming back!

My friends and I recently celebrated a birthday lunch at The Malabarikh Atelier, and it was truly an unforgettable experience! From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was inviting, and the service was impeccable, making us feel right at home.
We started our meal with the Travancore Chicken, and it was absolutely divine – truly “to die for,” as we kept saying! The flavors were incredibly rich and authentic, setting a high bar for the rest of the meal.
For our main courses we opted for the Chatti Choru and Pothichor, both of which were fantastic and tasted incredibly true to their origins. We also thoroughly enjoyed the Paalkappa and Koth Porotta, which perfectly complemented our choices. Each dish was a testament to the kitchen’s dedication to authentic flavors and traditional preparation.
Overall, The Malabarikh Atelier delivered on all fronts: delicious and authentic food, wonderful service, and a great atmosphere. It’s the perfect spot for a special occasion or simply to enjoy a truly genuine Kerala meal. We can’t wait to go back!
