The atmosphere is nothing like any other place at the Lake of the Ozarks. It’s quaint in size but stellar in ambience. From the finishes and decor to the thoroughly-thought-out bar and outdoor patio, it’s absolutely top notch.
Now for the food, you can’t go wrong here. I like the unique touch of each item. I love that these aren’t items you can find anywhere else at the lake. I love that every item on the menu has been carefully crafted to ensure its uniqueness.
We had the Poutine and Tuna Tostata. My husband is not a seafood fan but was raving about the tostata. The poutine was equally as unique and delicious. You really can’t go wrong here. Try it all!!
The sound barrier between the “dining area” and patio is pretty good. I was worried it would get loud with a band outside but it really wasn’t bad at all!
The staff is friendly, helpful, and skilled. This was their opening night and not a single flaw that we could see. That’s impressive.
My husband swung by to pick up takeout for us, and holy smashburgers, Batman; we were NOT ready.
Owen behind the counter was an absolute gem: friendly, quick with solid recommendations, and even tossed in a few local events we should hit up while we’re bouncing in and out of Missouri for work. Made us feel like regulars on our very first visit.
I ordered the “What’s the Big Dill” smash burger because I, too, enjoy living deliciously. People, this burger should be illegal in at least seven states. The patty? Seasoned so perfectly I’m pretty sure it whispered sweet nothings to my soul. Then they slather on dill ranch and crown it with fried pickles that crunch like gossip. The bun? Perfectly behaved: soft, light, there to hold the party together without trying to be the main character. Fries were hot, crispy, generously seasoned; basically everything you want fries to be when they grow up.
Meanwhile, my husband ordered the Portobello Prime French Dip and I have never seen a man inhale food like that. I looked up to ask for a bite and was met with an empty wrapper and a guilty finger in his mouth because he literally tried to eat faster than his own hand could keep up. Direct quote: “I think I just inhaled a sandwich and I’m not even sorry.” The au jus alone deserves its own standing ovation.
Lowlander is officially OUR place every single time we roll through Missouri (and yes, we’re already plotting how to make “multiple visits per trip” happen).
Don’t ever change, Lowlander. Don’t you dare.
Seriously good food, seriously nice people. We’re hooked. See you very, very soon.
