EXCEPT. I had asked for a side salad with ranch as my side and I got fries (even though I said I would pay for the up charge he told me it would be). Our nieces food NEVER came but we all gave her some of our food so she had a plate made up of portions of all of ours. My husband ordered the elk burger and the waiter brought a regular burger. Then had to take the regular burger back and it was another 10 minutes before he got what he actually ordered. The table was dirty and the waiter refused to take away dirty dishes so we actually started pre-bussing our table ourselves and stacking cups and stuff. Again, there were no other tables.
We totally would have understood if the restaurant was busy and/or understaffed but…again, there was no one else there!
Then we realized why the service sucked. Because a 20% gratuity was automatically added to the check. So of course the server was not going to work. Because he was guaranteed money even if he did a terrible job – which he did.
Food was 2 out of 5 stars. I would say the loaded fries were delicious and an unusual shape which made them fun! Burger was just okay.
Would not come back here unless someone not only paid for my meal but paid me.
View is amazing and probably the only reason it’s visited. We decided to stay for drinks and watch the sunset (that was great to see), however despite an ok wine list, was told there was no white wine and only Cabernet Sauvignon – so we had a glass each. Next server said they only had Merlot…
Bar area was untidy, the view of the fish tank was spoiled because of all the clutter on the ledge around it. Poor fish looked so bored and just made it feel weird!
Glad we didn’t eat here too, between afternoon and evening service there was no clean up, food debris and dirty cutlery were just left on the floor. The kitchen was untidy; with bread, sauces and dirty rags just left on the counter alongside the kitchen. One kitchen staff member had his trousers halfway down his bum so we could see his underwear and kept pulling them up, with the gloved hands that were then touching food and utensils being used in the kitchen!
Serving staff were just totally uninterested. They had ample opportunity to check on us and actually upsell but they didn’t! Only one server from the evening shift seemed to enjoy his work as he served a table alongside us.
Finally, I was to thank our waitress, Dominique. She was so sweet and definitely made the experience worth it. She kept our drinks full and made us smile. If you are reading this, Dominique, thank you for serving us!
The hostess was very helpful when making reservations and getting our desired table for the night.
Anna was friendly and provided great service.
Our food and cocktails were amazing. The Red Fish with crab is life changing!!
Also loved that a photographer was available to do a nice photo on the look out deck in front of the bridge.
Overall, fantastic experience. Highly recommend.
The design of the restaurant is really creative. I loved the floating metal fish artwork overhead, which gave the whole space a whimsical, underwater feel. The circular bar with its beautiful fish tank centerpiece was a major wow factor too The furniture and decor have a modern yet rustic vibe that really fits the overall lodge atmosphere. The designers really knew what they were doing!
The food was good. We started with the shrimp appetizer however, which was so spicy it set our mouths on fire! Thankfully, the cocktails were top-notch and helped cool things down. I especially loved their espresso martini, it was rich and smooth made just right.
After dinner, we walked around the observation area. The panoramic views were breathtaking. It was really peaceful, and perfect for taking in Memphis from above. I also appreciated how safe it felt, with reinforced glass and secure railings that made it easy to enjoy the view without worry.
Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience that blended adventure, good food, and stunning scenery. If you’re visiting Memphis, The Lookout at Big Cypress Lodge is absolutely worth a visit especially if you want something unique and unforgettable.
I would recommend sitting next to some nice Texans that make wonderful conversation while waiting about 45 minutes for their meal.
