Founded in 2005, The Lobster Trap is an Asheville institution, bringing the highest-quality sustainable seafood from the ocean to the mountains. Inspired by the friendly atmosphere of a New England backyard lobster bake, the restaurant has sourced its lobsters from the same Maine-based crew since its founding. The Lobster Trap offers a dining experience unlike any other in Western North Carolina thanks to its classic menu featuring favorites like surf and turf, clambakes, chilled seafood towers, crab cakes and more.
Cozy, casual spot for seafood, locally brewed craft beer & nightly live music.

I ordered takeout from here and was pretty disappointed in the quality and taste of the food. I ordered the oysters rockefeller, lobster stuffed mushrooms, and the Maine lobster roll. At the price, I guess I just assumed the quality would be a little better, even as a to-go order. Multiple of my oysters rockefeller had a LOT of grit in them. I’m not really sure how that happened or if it was broken shell or what, but I was very disappointed in those. The lobster roll was fine, but it was a lot of dry bread compared to the amount of filling and the taste did not wow me. Same with the lobster stuffed mushrooms. They were fine, but I was just disappointed to spend over 80$ of just fine. Maybe the meal would have been better served in restaurant, but I was very disappointed overall.

We heard about this place and said we’d stop by next time we visited Asheville. While in town celebrating the wife’s birthday, we came by, and our server Brandon was amazing. The recommendations and service were awesome. We split the Streamed Lobster Double with Broccolini and Lobster Mac n Cheese. Epic. Visit. You’ll enjoy it.

I love the Lobster Trap. Best seafood in Asheville, and best bisque I’ve had anywhere. Come for the $1 Oysters and Chowder deals on Monday and Tuesday. They prepare a mean steak as well, if you’re into surf and turf.

The atmosphere is good – music made it.. food was mediocre.
ClamChowder was watery and the jalapeño cornbread was not done in middle. Husband said oysters were nothing to right home about. Shrimp were average and mushrooms stuffed with lobster were mostly cream cheese. We will choose somewhere else next time for $140 just not worth it.

Wow! What great food, service, and atmosphere! The shrimp and scallop curry and the crab cakes were delicious. All the seafood was extremely fresh. The slaw with the crabcakes was light and flavorful. Our server, Brandon, was friendly and very attentive. There were a pair of guitarists playing some very nice easy listening music.

The Lobster Trap on Patton Avenue is an absolute must-visit for seafood lovers in Asheville! Located in the heart of downtown, it’s just steps away from several convenient parking lots, making it super easy to get in and out.
Everything we tried was fresh and absolutely delicious. The seafood boil was bursting with flavor, and the lobster dog was such a fun and tasty twist. The cozy environment and welcoming staff make the experience even better.
If you’re looking for fresh seafood and a warm, inviting atmosphere, The Lobster Trap is the place to go. Highly recommend stopping by—you won’t be disappointed!

We stopped here on our way home from Cherokee to Lenoir. It was difficult to find parking on a busy Saturday evening, and we had to pay for it, but it was only $4.00 per hour. The food was good, but our waiter seemed to favor other tables. We won’t be coming back, though. Too busy, crowded, and loud inside and outside of the restaurant.

Cute, casual place in downtown Asheville. We celebrated our Anniversary while on a trip to town. Our server was wonderful and very attentive. A band was playing jazz during our dinner. The meal was delicious. We had a shrimp appetizer, a halibut dish and a lobster dish, along with a tasty champagne. Very happy with the experience!

We came here after some coworkers recommended it. I had the lobster, my husband the steak and we shared the bread pudding. It was all amazing but what really topped off our experience was how great our waiter was tonight. He gave great recommendations and even offered to open up my lobster. His service was amazing and I only wish we got his name! The live band was a great touch. We would def come back next time we visit Asheville.
