One thing Oak Harbor needs a decent family restaurant and unfortunately Loakal Public House is not the answer. We arrived a little after 6pm and placed our order about 6:28. They have no plan for serving the little ones, simple things like a drinking glass, enough highchairs to go around and snacks and/or entertainment for the kids. We ordered a hamburger off the kids menu for our granddaughter and asked that it be brought out early with the salads. We also asked for some bread or crackers to pacify her while we waited, the waitress dropped off a handful of after dinner mint candies. After about 45 minutes we were served a medium rare hamburger. With the long wait and a very cranky child we were not going to send it back and instead picked around the edges and allowed her to eat only the cooked portions. Around 7:45, Mark was walking around talking to tables and I heard him say he was one of the owners, he visited the booth on each side of us and completely skipped over and ignored us. I hunted him down and told him exactly what I thought about his new business. He assured me he would make tonight right for us and asked that we give it another try in about 1 month as they work out the kinks and he has no experience in the restaurant business. While I was talking with Mark our food was served at 8:11pm. After declining deserts, our server dropped off the check for over $160. I summoned for Mark and asked how he was going to make this right and pointed at the check. He asked me what I thought would be fair? What? Ok the food was good but far from great, how about 50% off. He disappeared and returned stating his partner Kory would not go for 50% but offered 25%. Anything was better than nothing and after about 3 hours we wanted to get out of there.
The menu and atmosphere are confusing and don’t match. The prices are high, and they’re trying to do some gourmet food, yet you have 2 choices for seating, either at a cafeteria style tables on the dance floor or sitting on busted up old pallets converted into booths in their restaurant area. I’m not kidding, they didn’t even take the time to sand down or clean the pallets, bent over nails sticking out, rough wood that catches your clothing and after 3 hours, not even remotely comfortable. The table tops are bumpy and uneven and I had to tuck some sugar packets under my tray, (yes this expensive food is served on a warped wooden tray), edges to keep it from rocking as I tried to eat. The acoustics in the dinning area are awful. There might have been 15-20 people in the space and the noise was so loud it was difficult to hear the person sitting across from you. The food was OK but not worth their asking price and the decrepit dirty back alley style dinning atmosphere is far from inviting or comfortable.

I recommend ordering the specials when they have them, as the price equally matches the quality and value of the food. The food is tasty but lacks that something special, that a place serving a basic (meat, lettuce, bun) $12 burger needs. The atmosphere is great, and the inclusion of the separate dining room makes the Loakal a good option to occasionally bring the younger members of the family.

I don’t know where some of these reviewers have eaten before, but most of the food here is FAR from good. Burgers have zero consistency, the cook obviously does not understand the difference between rare, medium and well done, the wings are not spicy, and the establisment regularly runs out of popular beers and ingredients for mixed drinks. The redeeming qualities are the fries (the only edible items on their menu) and their decor, which is warm and inviting. Could be a great place if they would only hire people who can cook.

We’ve been a few times now and the food and beer selection has always been good. I recommend the Poutine for sure but also liked the loaded frites and burgers. The atmosphere and decor is by far the best in town. Large and could fit big groups. We’ve also gone to watch football and love that they have table shuffle boards

I never! Ever! Review places!
I will never eat here again. Ordered a medium burger one party was almost burned the other was raw in the middle.
When the menu offers you an extra patty you expect to be able to put it on you burger but with the 2 balls of meat I was served it was impossible.
The first time I had come here I ordered 3 drinks which are staples in this town. Red Bull vodka, Jameson ginger ale, and crown and coke which they were out of.
After I complained the manager was too busy to talk until after we had signed our check.

Good beer selection. Food was tasty, but a little on the artsy side for a pub. Took about 45 mins to get dinner for 3 people. I’ll probably be going there for beer and munchies in the future.

Food was delicious and decently priced. If you are not in a seat be expecting the staff to not be able to see you wanting to order food or drink. Also being very crowded and under staffed could have contributed to this. Very good atmosphere overall with darts, pool tables, shuffle board and touch tunes jukebox.
