Reviews
The good: The service from the bartender was fine, and she’s the reason my review includes an extra star. The food itself was okay. I got their Outer Limit burger, which was pretty decent tasting. The portion was a bit small for the price ($15).
The bad: There is some shadiness going on with how the specials are advertised. I noticed the menu said Tuesdays are BOGO wells and drafts. Awesome, right? Well when my check came I was charged for both beers, so I brought it to the bartender’s attention. She then proceeded to tell me that the BOGO drafts were for 1) 16 oz pours and not 24 oz like I got and 2) only Bud/Coors/Miller Lights. I asked where it says that since it’s not printed in the physical menu or on the website, and she said it was on the chalkboard. I turned around to read it, but it didn’t include the alleged fine print either. In fact, the chalkboard, the physical menu, and TWO locations on their website (Daily Specials under the Menu tab & Specials at the top banner) all contained the exact same text verbatim. None mentioned terms or caveats to the BOGO. I took screenshots of the online menu as well as the metadata showing when and where the first two screenshots were taken.
Another incorrectly advertised thing was the sides that came with their burgers. The menu (physical and online) say “all sandwiches come with a side”. So, I asked about the loaded baked potato, and that’s when I was told it was a $2 up charge. That disclaimer is not mentioned anywhere in writing.
I’m not inclined to believe this was a series of honest mistakes for multiple reasons:
1. As mentioned before the Tuesday BOGO is mentioned with the exact same text in FOUR locations. If lacking attention to detail was behind the poor advertising, there would have been discrepancies in the text between each location where it’s posted.
2. The up charge for certain sides isn’t mentioned anywhere in writing.
3. The front door has a sign that says “no public restroom”, but it’s not some handwritten note held by scotch tape. It was professionally stenciled onto the glass. Clearly, there was purposeful intent behind that. But suddenly the owner got a severe case of amnesia four times when advertising the specials? Sorry, but I don’t buy that.
To the bartender’s credit, she did try to contact the owner and ask if he’d honor the BOGO draft. I don’t know if she was able to reach him, but she ended up honoring the BOGO anyway. Hence why the two stars instead of one.
But for real, the owner better hope that someone less forgiving than me doesn’t complain to the state attorney general’s office, because it won’t be pretty.
