I found the restaurant extremely clean, the service friendly and the food very good. We ordered two hamburgers and a fish sandwich. Everything tasted great and the food was delivered to our table in a very timely manner.
I travel past Clear Lake several times a year and I will definitely be stopping there again.
There is also outdoor seating but we chose to sit indoors.
Less than 10 minutes from Interstate 35.
So this place is connected to the Surf, which is in itself is a legendary venue, however The Legacy Grill does not live up to its name nor the connection to the Surf. The menu is limited which should be no big deal because there is live music. But the live music we were …eh…subjected to was on the level of a 6th grade garage band. The singer was monotone and not sure he knew all the words to the songs. The singer kinda started off a few songs mumbling. I think he was waiting for the other band members to catch up to him and figure out which song he was doing. The drums, bass and guitarist/ singer kinda did to heir own things at a few points. Not quite a cohesive group. It was actually painful to listen to at times. Sad, cuz they played a few of my favorite tunes…and I use the term ‘playied’ loosely. I had to listen a bit to recognize what song they were playing.
I almost feel guilty being so critical because I am in no way musically inclined and know it takes a lot to put yourself on stage in front of people. My bigger issue is the connection to the legendary Surf and the serious lack of talented musicians the next ght we visited. I had higher expectations. Honestly hope this type of chalkboard scratching auditory torture is not a regular occurrence.
Back to the food. The bread used for my french dip is the kind that you get off the the grocery shelf that has so many preservatives in it that you can use it for MRE rations. Stick it in a coffee can, bury it in the back yard and in 30 years should be about the same quality as the day you buried it. The AuJus was light on the AuJus and heavy on what seemed to be water. The pulled pork sandwich was about a 5 on a 0-10 scale. Not much to write home about…or write a review about. French fries were top notch. Pretzel bites were pretty good. The fresh brewed iced tea was so tart I had to mix it with a glass of water. Food presentation was honestly very nice. So if you are going for fries and pretzel bites with excellent presentation, I highly recommend. Otherwise the food alone is in not a reason to visit.
In my opinion, bad food can be overlooked if there is a good band. A bad band can be overlooked if the food was to die for. When both are bad, there is little to no reason to come back.
Music and food aside, the venue itself is nice. Nice artwork on the walls including some guitars. Dance floor in front of the stage area. Booths were comfortable.
Oddly enough I had a good time only because of the company I was with. Go figure.
Located in a shared parking lot with The Surf Ballroom you can grab a bite and a cocktail before or after a show.
Get a Bloody Mary and some breakfast tacos while you check out the farmers market on Saturday mornings during the summer.
Family friendly. Great for date nights too.
