We had a group of 14. The service was excellent! Everyone said their meal was great. From their special hamburger to shrimp to steak and fish – it was all delicious.
Our waitress was on top of filling drinks and making sure we had everything we needed. She even took pictures for us!
The decor is really cute and well done making the dining experience there really great!

I had high hopes for a great steak dinner that quickly died standing at the door for 35 min staring at empty tables while a party of 25 waited for seating. They wouldn’t even take our name for a table. This would be fine, but they were seated in a special area set up specifically for then while 14 tables sat empty. After seating, it took 15 min to take drink orders and another 10 min to get them. We ordered the fried pickles and onion rings as appetizers, the ribeye Rare, and the filet medium rare along with 2 salad bars and the included chili. My wife and I went and made our salads. The salad bar tasted awesome. The ranch was great. The toppings needed to be cut smaller 6 inch slices of onion didn’t belong on a salad. We finished our salad as the fried pickles came out they were soggy and served with a temperature hot ranch. 15 min later, we got our chili, which consisted of beef broth, a few beans and chunks of burger meat, and a chalula hot sauce flavor. After getting my steak, it was cooked well done and full of gristle and was so salty bordering inedible. My wife’s filet was cooked medium and was tough and also salty, but they finished hers with salt chunks on top. The appetizer onion rings came out with the meal. The quality of ingredients was severely lacking. I’d be willing to bet there are no fresh ingredients used at all. All the while, we are looking at 12-18 empty tables. Our waitress was polite enough, just very short with words. I would not recommend eating here.

The Last Frontier has some of the best steaks anywhere near Walker County. Only one time did we have trouble with an order, due to their “steak cook” not being there. Service is hit or miss, however. If you’re there early and it’s not crowded, service is great. However as it gets more crowded, they don’t seem to be able to up their game and rise to the occasion. An additional plus is a really good salad bar.

Ok. So hear me out… the service is wonderful! The place is clean. I watched the man clean the tables and he was thorough like very thorough with separate wash cloths. The salad bar….. it was fine… it only had 3 dressings. I had the filet, my husband had the special which was a 10 oz ribeye, 6 shrimp friend or grilled, side and salad. Filet- I requested medium. It was a over done and charred on the outside. Ribeye- it was under cooked. He requested medium as well. We did not send them back or say something we ate it and left it like it was. Fried shrimp was great. We both got the potatoes with stuffing. They were fine. I will make a recommendation though to clean the outside of them really well and add a little oil and salt and pepper to them. We opted for a dessert and I grabbed a plain cheesecake… it was thick. It was very cold so basically it crumbled while trying to eat it. We drove around 45 min to get there. Will I do it again, no. I would eat there again. Just not worth the drive for us.

I enjoyed the food quantity and quality. The service was wonderful. I love the open building with plenty of seating. The salad bar had plenty of options.

A quintessential southern Americana dining experience for me, an out of towner, taken here tonight for my first time courtesy of my in-laws. Sufficient portions of solid and reasonably priced food served up quickly by down to Earth friendly staff (plus the busser was hustling turning over those tables!). I had that special burger with onion rings that were a winner, some of my wife’s catfish, and a piece of key lime cheesecake. Tea is good too. Interior is spacious and open while tastefully decorated. Parking lot huge enough to accommodate all y’all’s ginormous trucks. Must come back for an actual steak.

More accurate is 3.5 stars. The dining room was nearly full, but the wait time for our party of 3 was only 5 – 10 minutes. The service was exceptional with drink orders being taken and delivered quickly. Warm bread was a pleasant surprise. The salad bar was decent but small when compared to the claims and reviews of being the best. Where the experience begins to drop is also with the service. Soup and salad is offered with every entree (nice option) but when asked which of the 2 options of soup I wanted (beef and vegetable or potato) I stated potato which was repeated back. I received beef and vegetable, but I’m not that particular to send it back. The appetizer was delivered soon but had the taste of a frozen or pre-made appetizer. Easily the worst tasting item of the night. Another detractor was the amount of time for the entrees to be delivered. It appeared to be another 30 minutes before they came. The steak was really good and the baked potato came with enough condiments to not need anymore. If there was some critique to the steak, maybe some salt. But that becomes a preference. The last thing that takes away from the overall rating is that there isn’t a wind break in the foyer and every time the door opened, cold air would overtake the entire room. Overall, the food was really good and the service was as well. Just a few things that would make the experience better. I will be returning to try some other items and to try the cheesecake!
