Delicious food. Clean restaurant. The server was excellent. Highly recommend eating here. There’s a train track around the ceiling that has trains circling. I love the old photos framed throughout the restaurant of the town.

Three of us showed up for dinner on a cold December Sunday. Place wasn’t crowded, just a smattering of customers. Seated right away the server quickly got a drink order. Shortly thereafter we ordered a burger, sloppy joe, chili & curds. All arrived fast & hot. All good too. We’ll
Definitely be back.

The vibes here are unmatched! The bartenders make your experience so fun! I was a little disappointed they didn’t give me a Guinness glass, but my boyfriend and I had a great time here. I would certainly go back!

“So Many Elderly Folks Coming Here‼️” It just breaks my heart to see this!
Look, this place can do much better, especially with the narrow entrance at the bar. Look how much needed handrails going up the stairs, and in the middle of the (narrow steps) are needed. Even better, how about a (wide step) with a stair handrail. The door entrance would be safe by constructing a new door in the middle of the steps and not on the side. **It’s time for a new upgrade**, the money coming into this business, should definitely consider taking care of the Customers too, don’t you agree ? This is the (Go to Place) for Drinking and Mingling. Let’s Go we are cheering for you‼️

My family lives in Lake Forest and we have loved coming here for the past 8 years and the food is great but for the past 5-6 months when we have been eating there and ordering out the portions have gotten significantly smaller, specifically the fries. We asked for extra curly fries on the side before the order came and when it arrived there were not very many fries. We asked for extra again and we got a laughable amount of fries for 7 people. Just think for for the prices of the food, they shouldn’t be skimping on food like this

Have been here for drinks & sometimes food. Casual, comfortable atmosphere. Grilled chicken sandwiches & burgers are good. Tried the shepherd’s pie, which was really salty & over-seasoned; only ate about half. Should have sent it back. There is a railing by entrance steps, but steps are narrow. A yellow stripe on step edges would be helpful, especially when going down. I didn’t notice a sign indicating a more accessible entrance in rear.

It amazing but not bad for a quick bite. Fries were cold. Tuna melt was very average. Not a place I’d be excited to come back to but the chicken pot pie was delicious. So it depends what you order.

Our burger club just visited The Lantern and it was pretty good.

Apparently The Lantern has been around since 1934, but not in its current location. It’s a smallish place with lots of street parking nearby.

It was a cold night when we were there. We thought we would have eight-to-ten people in our group, but ended up with seven people. They don’t take reservations, but if you call an hour before you arrive with your largish party, they will hold a table for you. And they did.

When you walk in the front door, you immediately walk to the right for the bar or dining room seating to the left. They set our table up across from the door. Every time someone went in our out, we had a cold blast of air hit us and that was a bit unnerving. You just couldn’t get warm. There was a wall behind us, but apparently another dining section on the other side, we should have sat there, it would have been more comfortable.

Our party was debating about getting an appetizer as we saw someone else get the wings which were big and juicy looking. They couldn’t make up their mind, so I got their soup of the day: cream of chicken soup. It was pretty good and much needed on a cold nice, but it was just okay and I can pass on it next time. The soup was warm, almost room temperature, so they’ll have to heat it up next time.

I ended up getting their 8oz Lantern burger. They have a junior option at 6oz and a Tiffany at 10oz. The middle was fine. I got it medium rare with American cheese, lettuce, pickles, and mustard and a side of tots. They have a lot of options and the server recommended the tots. They were good, but no better than anywhere else.

The burger was juicy and good, but the meat is not seasoned. Though if it is, I couldn’t taste it. However, the bun held up really well despite how juicy the burger was and the burger was cooked to perfection. Others in our party thought the burgers were just okay.

Over all, we had an average score of 4.00/5.00.

The burgers were good, but I bet there are better items on the menu which boasts the best burgers in town. Not sure about that, but decent enough.

I’d give it a 3.5 star if it was a option. Good service and environment. I tried the famous burger and an order of wings on my 1st visit, both were good and the prices seemed reasonable. On my 2nd visit I gave the Broasted chicken a try, it was cooked perfectly; moist inside, crispy outside, but the light breading didn’t have any flavor. The side order of house potato chips were really good.

They always serve a great burger. I wish they were more generous with delicious onion rings, but you can’t have everything. I come here probably once every 2 or 3 months and always enjoy it
