If anyone remembers the old gal‘s station house, the lantern is the third incarnation of what was there after the Fire devastated Gus many years ago it went through a couple of changes and I’m happy to report that the food here is very good and reasonably priced across the board, they have a wonderful fish and chips product, which is made with a fish called BASSA. It’s in the catfish family and I’ll tell you it’s better than cod but speaking of cod my friend had a wonderful cod sandwich with a nice toasted salad and I had a wonderful brisket sandwich tonight smoked thinly sliced red coleslaw provolone cheese melted to keep it all together and a very soft tasty brioche bun with good fries basically $20 a person so very reasonable nice craft cocktails plenty of good sports on the TV and Draft beer selection is nice too very reasonable as I said and a solid choice for family and friends

My coworkers and I visited The Lantern for happy hour on a Tuesday: it’s a cozy restaurant and bar and was relatively busy for a Tuesday evening. They have happy hour deals on cocktails/well drinks, beer, wine and select food. I got the Moscow mule (which you usually don’t see on happy hour menus) and the hot honey and salami pizza! The pizza was $10 but the quantity was fantastic, it came with around 8 square slices and lasted to the next day. Love the deal and the atmosphere!

Amazing atmosphere. Sitting outside enjoying the town while tasting some good food is one of the perks you get here.
Food is really good. Classic American cuisine.
They do have some buns but for me they are actually tiny burgers (they were tasty though).
The place gets really busy so try to get there earlier.

The menu was wide-ranging and the food was fine, but the service was lacking. I had a question about the actual kind of mixed greens that were offered (I cannot eat spinach), which my server couldn’t answer. He brought over the woman in charge, who gave me a somewhat vague though sufficient answer. But with attitude. Apparently she couldn’t wait to return to the bar, sit down, and hang out with her phone. The server never stopped by my table to check on me. The place was almost empty, and it doesn’t take much to make a customer feel valued. I didn’t.

2/2024: Last night we met a bunch of friends for a drink at the bar and it was a lot of fun. Mixed drinks are around $16, pint of hard cider $7, .. my father says it’s the best gnocchi ever, and the burgers are delicious.
The atmosphere is really the reason to come except that it was so hot inside!! And so many televisions playing sports.
2020:
Yummy Bunny Bloody Mary is good.
Ambience is excellent, an Italian-American pub; service is good for drinks, slow for food, but it’s excellent.
Ribs are excellent!!

So nice to have another establishment on Main Street Ridgefield ..

Music is all 80s pop, could be updated.

Nice place to relax and enjoy good food. The menu is extensive with salads, burgers, tacos, and pizza. The service is very good and the staff is very friendly. Avoid the pizza – their version of a Margherita pizza is a flat slab covered with tomato sauce and an over abundance of mozzarella cheese – not a Margherita!

We also really enjoyed the crispy Calamari and a kale Cesar salad. Last but not least go for the dessert we had the homemade brownie with a side of the hazelnut Gelato five stars all the way! This was a pretty mediocre experience, but there’s enough potential here where I haven’t completely written it off yet. My mom and I came here for lunch on Easter. Points in The Lantern’s favor for even being open that day – we had a tough time finding a mutually agreeable destination due to the holiday, especially one without an exorbitant prix fixe menu. We were able to walk in off the street and immediately secure a prime table right up front next to the window, ideal for outdoor pooch viewing. I didn’t have a good view of the interior for the most part but did take notice of the excellent wainscoting/backdrop behind the bar – very pleasing to the eye.

I decided to roll with the Easter specials menu and selected the lamb ragout entree. Per the instructions on the bottom of the menu, I asked our server for more information on the seasonal spring cocktails available. He didn’t know (and in my opinion should have), but quickly conferred with the bartender and confirmed that they only had one specific drink. I may be paraphrasing slightly, but it was called something like a berry smash. Not a huge deal, but if you’ve gone to the trouble of creating a specials menu that specifically includes language about special cocktails plural, there should be more than one. Regardless, I decided to get it. I believe it was vodka, club soda and some blueberries. It was refreshing for what it’s worth, but pretty bland. I’m typically not a huge fan of mulled ingredients in drinks (too easy to accidentally eat part of them, so I tend to avoid mojitos), but this is one that could have used mulling for flavoring purposes. It basically tasted like a plain vodka tonic without a lime or lemon and needed at least one more ingredient.

My mom got the breakfast pizza and was okay with it. She asked for the breakfast pizza with sausage, and it came with both sausage and bacon (the item on the brunch menu says it comes with either of them). The bacon was easy to pick off but shouldn’t have been on there to begin with. Small issue, but those can add up.

The lamb ragout was good, though not great. The lamb itself was juicy, tender and flavorful, but I could have done without the carrots (I think their inclusion should have been mentioned in the description – I probably would have gone with a different option). Also, like the drink, it was lacking at least one more ingredient, in this case a sauce. Beyond the actual lamb the dish was pretty dry – the pappardelle was only moist in areas where the braised lamb had made direct contact, and I had to really saturate the pasta with the lamb before eating it.

The service was fine. Our waiter was friendly/attentive for the most part. There were one or two times where we were looking around for him (that might be the trade-off with the cozy window nook we were in, as I don’t think we were really in the line of vision too often), but nothing egregious. And the price point to me was arguably the biggest selling point – the total bill came to a little over $50, which, given that an alcoholic drink and two entrees were involved, definitely isn’t bad for this area.

I’d definitely stop by again; the talent here is evident, but I’d probably avoid the specialty menus going forward.
