The sodas come in cans and the steak is charred to perfection. The music choice was a little questionable… Like Irish folklore. But overall the vibe was nice. Not too nice though. Like a button down and jeans is okay to wear here. There’s a bar and dining room seating. It’s downstairs which was a surprise so be prepared to walk down some steep steps. Overall it was a nice evening. Oh big thing is you need to have reservations. They don’t take walk in seating.

Restaurant is in the basement.
Atmosphere is dark and of the 1980’s style pub/bistro.
Food caters to an older audience with safe seasoning levels.
No depth to the flavors, barely any pepper on the steaks and not much salt. Same with the au ju, somehow this also had barely any flavor.
The sautéed mushrooms were loaded with salt though.
For the price point I expected much more.
Water is from the tap, unfiltered. The flavors so strong it tastes almost like well water.

Also, my partners steak tasted like dog poop. So that’s concerning.

Servers knew everyone that came in besides us. So they’ve definitely got some regular customers, but it took away from our service as they chatted with everyone besides us, leaving our waters empty.

My daughter and I had a reservation for 4:30pm on 12/5/25. It wasn’t busy when we arrived as they just opened. It took a long time for our drinks to arrive even though they weren’t busy. Maybe 8 people in the restaurant, 2 of which were at the bar. I ordered the prime rib and my daughter ordered the Porterhouse. Although the prime rib was tasteful it was full of fat and every bite I had I was chewing fat. My daughter ordered an apple martini and sent it back as she said it didn’t taste like an apple martini and was too strong. Our server although good never checked back to ask how our food was at which point I would have complained about the fatty prime rib. We had to leave before completing our meal as my daughter began to feel ill. I should mention this was also a bday dinner for my daughter. Someone boxed our food and when I went to try to eat my leftovers the next day, there was no au jus (which I had requested to be in the box) and my baked potato that I never ate, only cut into was not in my box. I called and spoke to the manager the next day to discuss my concerns and she seemed apathetic! All she said was she was sorry which didn’t appear genuine. After a long pause the manager asked, “was there something I can do or you’re just reporting this?” I stated that I wanted my concerns to be heard and that I’d appreciate some sort of discount at least should I ever return. Manager stated, “I’ll make a note.” I also informed her that my family has been going to the Johnson House for years and have even had some parties in their party room and I’ve never experienced this. At this point I will never return not because of 1 bad meal, but because of the managers lack of concern/care about my experience. I do not know who exactly this manager is, but I believe the owners should care much more than she did! Just extremely apathetic and uncaring!! Think twice about getting the prime rib as I’ve now spoken to others who have had the same experience. I spent $130 for 2 and gave the server 20% despite the fact that she never asked how our food was. It wasn’t her fault that the prime rib was full of fat and chewy! I hope the owners will read this and realize that their manager on duty 12/6/25 was very unconcerned and uncaring! Not the way to manage a restaurant. I got the impression that she thought I was someone calling for a freebe! I previously worked as a server and bartender in restaurants as a young adult and I’ve never witnessed any manager who didn’t care and immediately just offer some sort of compensation and sincere apology! Someone looking for a freebe doesn’t give a server 20% despite poor food quality. Very disheartening!!!

We hosted our company holiday dinner at The Johnson House and it was easily one of the best buffet-style dinners we’ve had. The food was excellent, and the service throughout the evening was attentive without being intrusive.

After dinner, we headed downstairs to the bar, which had such a festive, welcoming ambiance—Christmas music from the piano, the friendliest bartender, and a relaxed atmosphere where we never felt rushed. A wonderful spot for both a special event and after-dinner drinks.

From the time we arrived everything was perfect from the service at the bar to the service at the table. The steak for two was excellent. The piano playing added a lot to the atmosphere as will as the both near it. Couldn’t ask for any better way to celebrate our 29th wedding anniversary. Thanks so much for a memorable dinner.

After multiple rave reviews from our 2 friends, who grew up in Churchville, we finally went to Naughton’s Johnson House steak house! I have to admit when we first walked in and we went to the basement I didn’t know what to expect, however we were pleasantly surprised! The steak was cooked perfectly and everything was seasoned very well! I can see why so many people love it since 1977! #585checkitout #rochesterny #byoutodaytraveltiprochesterny

I’m almost speechless writing this. I took the wife here for a Friday date night dinner. We were supposed to have tried this place many months ago but weren’t able to. It came back to mind as a place I wanted to try…and IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT! The meal options were so simple, but that simplicity delivered in a major way! First off, I had the May Berry martini….DIVINE! Perfectly balanced. Tasted just like it sounded. Love the prominence of the raspberry flavor….a touch more sweet than tart, but undeniably raspberry. The liquor had just enough “gas” to give you a buzz, but not leave you unable to function. Perfect for a Friday night date for parents of a newborn.

The main attraction for me was the veal parmesan. OMG! Best veal I’ve ever had, BEST ITALIAN DISH I’ve ever had state-side. It’s no secret how Americans can really overdo and over-pronounce Italian cuisine. First of all, this veal was SIZABLE and didn’t feel unfair for its price. Easy to cut, very tender. Breading was solid, but light. Right amount of salt and seasoning. The SAUCE- simple, beautifully kissed with tomato flavor without being too acidic or heavy. PERFECT PROPORTION OF SAUCE AND VEAL! I didn’t feel like I was drowning in sauce to hide a half-done protein. Same with the cheese- enough mozzarella to cover the entire cut, but not overbearing! It presented as hefty and sizable, but still had a light & easy quality to its eating.

I accompanied my veal with sides of tossed salad, garlic mashed potatoes and sautéed mushrooms and onions. There were no flaws in any of it! I loved that I could take some cold butter from the table and put it on my potatoes to allow it to melt on the metal plates that retained heat from the cook. It was indulgent and compact at the same time! I doubt you’ll be disappointed! I wish I would’ve had dessert…but that just means I have a reason to go back now, doesn’t it? lol

We chose this restaurant for a celebratory dinner with friends and it was the perfect place for such an occasion! Everything was perfect from the food, service, atmosphere and location. We were seated at the Attica table, which is next to a bullet stricken prison door taken out of the garbage after the Attica Prison riots and mounted on the wall of the restaurant. Who knew that little piece of NY history is found in this restaurant?? As history buffs, that was an added bonus for us! The room itself is lovely, dimly lit with a fireplace and dark woodwork. We can’t say enough about how delicious and well prepared the dinners are as well as the desserts. If you ever needed a reason to visit Churchville, this is it!

My first time here and had a delicious meal from start to finish. French onion soup was good, the lamb chops and garlic mashed potatoes were delicious. The drinks and service were excellent too! Probably one of the best overall meals we’ve had in a while!

One of our favorite places to go. Reservations are best as it fills up fast. Food is always AMAZING, service is great and it is a perfect little location for a romantic dinner for 2. Everything is great, but you must try the Stuffed Mushrooms and the Stilton Steak! We will definitely be returning many more times.
