Had a fantastic time. 25 of us for lunch after memorial mass. Linda waited on us, she was beyond great. Very attentive. Always checking in making sure everyone had what they needed. Food was great, drinks great. Fun cocktails. We ate in the front room/glass room/like a green house. Very cool. The entire restaurant had cozy Irish pub feel to it. Great pics/decor. Highly recommend. Parking lot was a bit tricky but the (2) feet of snow did not help

A very welcome addition to the burgeoning food scene on Cape Ann.
Very friendly and fast service. I got the baked half chick with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The clam chowder was also very good. My friend got the salmon caesar salad and said it was very good.
Good Sunday morning scene with live music.

The restaurant was clean, the decor was pleasing, and the food was amazing. I had the seasonal risotto, with chicken added. The person I was with ordered the fisherman’s pie and enjoyed it so much they wanted to go back the next day.

Couldn’t have had a better first experience last Saturday night! Our 7pm reservation was early! We arrived at 6:45pm knowing we were early and we were seated by 6:50pm. Kelly was a phenomenal server; attentive, knowledgeable, offered amazing recommendations, was genuinely kind and personable, and never let a crumb touch the table. The food was incredible! Everything was timed perfectly, giving us ample time to eat and enjoy before the next course arrived. Fresh ingredients, hot entrees, and well seasoned bites – everything from the oysters to the sticky toffee carrot cake was a delight. This was the best restaurant experience my husband and I have had in years. Truly.
Two very minor notes:
– the restroom was sprinkled with paper towels on the floors. A little extra attention would make a huge difference.
-it was LOUD. It was a Saturday night and we were next to a large group, so we didn’t complain. It happens. But wow, it was LOUD.
10/10. Really. We can’t wait to come back and we’ll be asking for Kelly!!

Was our first time here we stopped in without reservations on a Saturday night they were pretty busy but were able to get us right in which was nice, the food was excellent we got the lobster rangoons which were tasty and the soda bread (could eat that with every meal!) And for entrees we got the hot honey chicken bowl and the meatloaf which were both filling and delicious! Had no room left for dessert but all sounded amazing!! And the service was phenomenal from Alyssa, she was so busy but equally attentive we never had an empty water or an empty dish sitting on our table and with everything brought out we were checked in on every time! The general manager Michael, was also very welcoming, came to our table and was helpful at recommending some great options…. We will 100% be back thank you for a great 1st of many visits!!

My wife and I had dinner at the James on Friday, March 6th, 2026. It was a busy evening there, a most excellent band playing, the house was full and there was a good atmosphere about the place. We had a reservation. The host and waitress were pleasant and welcoming. We requested a quieter table – away from the band – and we were not disappointed. Service was timely. I had the shepherd’s pie – which I would rate 7 out of ten. Tasty. Could have been more meat and less corn. My wife had the haddock and breadcrumbs (may have called something else) – it was a 1 out of ten. It was truly tasteless. I suspect it was cod not haddock. A big disappointment. It was served with broccoli – tasted a bit washed out and mashed potatoes – which were top class. Unlikely that we will be back for food.

This place is the best. We live 30 mins away and drive here because we are craving any one of their amazing dishes. Service is great. The bar is huge. And they’re consistent. We love this spot.

My family comes here frequently. We love how kind and energetic the staff are, as well as the sense of community they created. The food is always delicious no matter what you get, there’s a large selection of drinks to choose from, and the atmosphere of the restaurant is both cozy and elegant. Definitely stop by if you’re in the area, this is a real gem of a place!

We went to The James for the first time and it will not be our last! The service was amazing, our server Kelly was super friendly and attentive and made our experience memorable. We ordered the crab rangoons, smash burger and gnocchi and everything was delicious and came out quick. Highly reccomend if you’re in the area!

First off, let me qualify my rating. I would give 5 stars for “outstandingly excellent” or Michelin award level, only. I think 4 stars = very good, and I think a lot of folks give 5 stars for very good.
A real upgrade to The Village, but in need of just a few final polishings. Food was good, but not as excellent as the prices would have you expect. Clam chowder was an “A”, and a meal by itself, served in a large bowl. My Irish whiskey cocktail was seemingly made with Ginger “ale” versus Ginger beer. (I give an “A” to the ample selection of Irish whiskeys on the menu, as most restaurants carry only the mediocre Jameson). My wife’s salad with chicken was good, but she mentioned she was not pleasantly surprised the chicken was fried instead of broiled. My seafood pie was tasty and full of fresh seafood, but the white sauce was heavy and overfilling (although I shouldn’t “complain” as it was comped due to first being served shepherd’s pie by mistake). All things considered, I think we will be back to try other dishes. I will give it a solid B+
