The food is outstanding, and the espresso martini is a must. They will even make a decaf version if you ask. We love ordering a little of everything and sharing with friends because it is nearly impossible to choose just one dish.
Also worth noting, any previous comment about a credit card charge issue was not the restaurant’s fault. It turned out to be the individual’s bank taking over a week to release a standard pre authorized charge.
This is our go to spot for a night out any time of year. See you at The James.
To start, we arrived early for our 6pm reservations to have a cocktail, walking in around 5pm the bar was packed and extremely loud. I slipped inbetween people to order a drink that once the bartender reached me all went well. Cocktails were made perfect and bartender was quick to cover demand. Wish we could have sat down but majority of the tables were reserved for parties.
With others of our party arriving, we were sat at a table upstairs and greeted by our servers. They were busy but very attentive to our needs through out dinner. We ordered Baked Clams that were absolutely excellent. Followed by Lobster Pasta, Cod Fish and their Tomahawk steak special for two. My wife and I had the steak which was prepared to our request but was a bit fatty. I might be spoiled by other steak houses here on Long Island but dont think it stacks up to those as its competition. However all in all. It was good and I will go back to try at a quieter time and provide a update.
She took the time to go over the drink specials and menu, and I ended up going with the skirt steak which was excellent. Her service was attentive, pure, and she made sure everything at our table was running smoothly the whole night.
To end the dinner she offered tea, coffee, or dessert which was a great touch;
I went with the tea since she recommended it. Tori is definitely top tier and made the whole experience even better.
The food itself is very expensive, but the portion sizes were perfect. You get a fair amount for what you pay. Unfortunately, my counterpart and I had a bad experience with the meat. We ordered the filet mignon, and for $130, it was disappointing that the steak was overcooked. We didn’t ask for a replacement because we were starving, but it came out very overdone and honestly a bit cold. The flavor was still good, but for that price, it should’ve been perfect. I understand it was busy, and overall the service was still solid—our waitstaff was incredible, very polite and attentive. There were a few moments where we waited a bit, but nothing unreasonable, and it did give us time to get our appetite back.
One highlight was the dessert. The cake was amazing—18 layers of pure goodness. I’d definitely recommend getting that.
