My main orders are breakfasts. It’s great. The service tho. The boss is the one of true friendship to the costumer. That’s all I’ll say.

Iron Tomato ON 565 Taxter Road :
I’ve been a regular at Iron Tomato for breakfast and lunch, and usually I enjoy my visits especially when Juan is serving, as he is always respectful and professional. However, I’ve had repeated negative experiences with another employee, Richard.

The first incident was a few months ago when I came in with cash, and the register was short on change. I wasn’t informed of this before ordering. When I declined to use my card because of the service charge, Richard reacted with a hostile attitude, making it feel like it was my fault the register didn’t have enough change. This was uncomfortable and embarrassing, particularly because I was with a coworker. I’ve done my best to avoid interacting with him since, because I still enjoy the café overall.

Today, the experience was far worse. After paying with Apple Pay, I started walking toward the elevator when Richard ran after me, loudly saying that my card had declined. I calmly showed him my phone, proving the transaction went through, and asked what he wanted me to do because I genuinely didn’t know. Instead of helping resolve the issue professionally, he continued escalating, speaking to me in a condescending and aggressive tone in front of my coworkers, who were now present.

I offered to pay again just to resolve the situation, which I did successfully. I explained afterward that the issue had been resolved, but I did not appreciate the way he spoke to me. Richard then accused me of being “hostile” for asking what he wanted me to do, and as I was leaving, he made a loud, public comment about the way I spoke. This was humiliating and unnecessary especially since there was many more of my coworkers there.

This pattern of behavior is unacceptable for any customer-facing employee. No one should feel embarrassed, threatened, or publicly confronted when trying to resolve a simple payment issue. I spoke to other people in my office and I was reassured that this wasn’t a personal experience and other people in my office have also had negative experiences with him.

My coworkers and I go into this establishment several times a week due to it being so close to my office. Everything about this place is awesome except for one area, and that’s the pizza area. All of the staff except for the cashier wear gloves when handling food except for the pizza man. I noticed it the first time I ordered a slice of pizza and he grabs my slice with his bare hands, no utensils or anything. I mentioned it to my co workers and they have also noticed the gentleman not wearing gloves when handling their food. I stopped eating pizza there because of it. Also almost every time I go in there, it seems as if the guy is coming from the back somewhere. How do we know if he washed his hands or not. Wearing gloves should be a policy when handling food just like a hair net should be required.

The Iron Tomato has become a staple for us! Delicious to-order breakfast sandwiches and banging sandwich counter.

The folks here work incredibly hard to provide delicious, consistent food and we appreciate them!

I went into this location with a family member and ordered 2 Balboa sandwiches which require toasted bread. I said hello to the lady behind the counter and asked politely for this order. She prepared the bread and placed it in the oven to be toasted. No problem at all! Several minutes go by and we see her run towards to oven and pull out 2 loaves of burnt bread. My family member was not happy about this, so the next time I saw her, I asked if she could please toast new bread – so that my family will not have the bitter taste of burned bread as they eat it later. She rolled her eyes at me and lightly scraped at the burnt parts off the sandwich – much of the burned portion still remained on the bread after asking.

I asked once again, “I’m sorry can you please toast two new pieces? I really don’t want the burnt part.” This made her tell her co-worker who yelled at me, “THE BREAD IS FINE! IT’S GARLIC BREAD. THERE’S NOTHING WRONG WITH IT!” I was really shocked by her response ,since the sound level in the store was not loud at all, but answered in a normal volume with a neutral tone, “I know, but I would just like it not as toasted.” Several customers standing next to me were shocked by the co-worker’s behavior, saying “Oh my god, she (the lady working behind the counter) should be more flexible, it’s her (referring to me) order!” And even took the time to explain in Spanish that the bread was too toasted for my order. The lady behind the counter said she already understood and began preparing new pieces of bread to be toasted for my sandwich. Both women working behind the counter avoided eye contact with me the rest of the time I was there and did not interact with me until my order was finished, but looked very annoyed about my request. I was honestly excited about trying this location as I usually order from the Purchase location, but I was very hurt and embarrassed for having a specific order. It is never my intention to make other people’s lives difficult, I just was asking for the sandwich to be done a certain way so my family can enjoy the food I was bringing back for them.

First visit, I had the Beef Meat Ball Calzone and for my wife a pastrami sandwich.
Second visit I had Philly Cheese Steak Calzone and for my wife Beacon and egg on a roll.

I would always see those “calzones” at shops but didn’t know what it was called or what it comes with. Giovanni named them all but didn’t tell me it comes with ricotta cheese, which I’m not a fan of. So on my second visit I got something else.
Beacon on the egg sandwich wasn’t well cooked.

Giovanni, deli women and cashier all friendly and welcoming.

Let me tell you if you’re looking for a chicken cutlet sandwich, this is the place to get it at. I had a chicken cutlet sandwich on boishe bread, I hope I spelled it right, with fresh mozzarella, roasted red peppers. Words can’t do it enough justice.

Fresh food, great variety, and friendly staff. Half of this place is a marketplace and the other half is a bakery. The chicken parm sandwich was amazing.
