Last month I traveled to the US with my daughters, Holly and Ellie, to visit my niece Leona and her husband Michael and see their new restaurant, The Irish American, in Mahopac. We had such a great time!
The food was excellent – authentic Irish dishes throughout. It was hard to pick a favorite because everything we tried was so good. The onion rings are a must-try, absolutely outstanding!
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and there’s even a replica of an Irish thatched cottage on site, complete with an old-time black bicycle , (all the way from Kilkeel) parked outside. The cottage serves as a shop selling Irish food and memorabilia.
Congratulations to Leona and Michael – the place is truly a credit to them, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone in the area.

Thrilled to say this was wonderful! All authentic Irish food that was also delicious. Beautifully decorated and spotless. Attentive service as well. We enjoyed a lunch with fish and chips and a full Irish breakfast. Fish was very fresh and a large serving. Homemade chips can’t be beat. Can’t wait to return for the Sunday dinners. Don’t forget to do some shopping in the cottage for some delicious take home treats!

My new favorite place! Moved up here from Yonkers a little over a year ago and missed all the Irish pubs and markets there. This restaurant has all the Irish music I grew up on going to my grandma’s house listening to and the food is amazing. I have tried several items on the menu and all are delicious. The market in the restaurant is full of all the Irish goodies I missed when visiting Ireland. This will be my new place to go. The owners and staff are so friendly and inviting. Come and visit you won’t regret it!

I have lived in the UK and have spent a lot of time in Ireland over the years. It is wonderful to have an authentic Irish restaurant close by. The burgers are excellent, amazing fish and chips, I love the Gaelic chicken and the chicken curry half and half brings me back to ordering late night take away in Dungannon. The shop is a brilliant idea and great to stock up on traditional Irish sweets. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. Wonderful gem in Mahopac !

This restaurant blew our expectations out of the water. We ordered chicken curry, salt & chili chicken, sides of coleslaw & mushy peas, and onion rings, and everything was absolutely to die for. The curry chicken was cooked so perfectly it was falling apart, and it was one of the best meals I’ve ever had in my life. Our server Kerri was absolutely a delight and made the experience even more wonderful – so friendly and kind and helpful. We ended our meal in the well-stocked, reasonably priced shop, and have goodies to take home with our leftovers. The whole restaurant was also spotlessly clean, which we both were impressed by. We happened upon this restaurant by chance while traveling, but dream of coming back again.

Highly recommend The Irish American. It has a great new vibe with an authentic Irish feel. Mom and I decided to try it out. Food was great! We had a burger and a cheese toastie with such a lovely server, Keri. Can’t wait to to back!

What a great place. Went in to give the place a test drive, and I’m very glad I did. Mahopac needed a restaurant like this. The staff was so accommodating. A solid menu to choose from. Onion rings for the appetizer was perfecto! The Gaelic Chicken entree and The Ruby sandwich were de-lish. The food was served perfectly. And, of course, you have to shop in the little Irish ☘️ Cottage for your “Roses” and other Irish sweets. This place was done right. I absolutely will be back. Definitely a recommend.
