Reviews
Anyway, I am customer who believes in multiple chances, but issue after issue…. First time I was there they pushed me hard to try to do a review, then they tried to charge me for water, which is not allowed in Connecticut at a restaurant in CT. There was also one of the longest wait times I’ve had to order the food, and the wait time was significant even after ordering.
Next few times no one was there during regular hours. Today I was leaving after receiving it, when I went the wrong way looking for the exit closest to where I parked. When I saw there was no exit there, I turned around and encountered an employee who said why are you over there. I said I was looking for the back exit, so then she said you cannot go there your trespassing. I said there’s no sign there explaining any trespassing, and I’m merely looking to leave. For some reason an argument ensued as she seem to not believe me, she said I was behaving badly, and the hotel owner appeared a moment later and told me to leave and never come back. I asked what I did wrong, and he would not tell me what I did. He had me leave immediately or he was calling the police.
As for the food, it’s good, but I’ve had a number of times I haven’t had things at the menu said we’re in stock. Maybe today all was in stock, but portion sizes aren’t the best. Fortunately the areas of the hotel with a strong smell aren’t this part.
It is a pure Indian restaurant and there are lots of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. I ordered Dal Makhni, Panner Makhanwala, Chhole old Delhi style along with Naan. Main dishes are served with a portion of basmati rice. Food was great, and taste was authentic. Chhole took me down the memory lane as taste reminded me of Old Delhi.
Restaurant has dine-in facility with lots of sitting space. Ample parking spaces. I highly recommend this restaurant. I am sure you will like it.
I was browsing one of many food apps and I noticed a new Indian restaurant. Looking up reviews, I was surprised to see multiple 5 star reviews so soon after opening with some good looking photos. Only take-out is offered, so I decided to place an order and pick it up. It is located inside of a hotel close to the highway. I didn’t notice any signage or instructions, but it was just inside the main entrance. It seems to be in the place of a former hotel bar/restaurant. My experience picking up the food was fine.
When I got home with my order, I was in disbelief with what I received. I ordered chicken roganjosh, tandoori malai broccoli and tandoori naan. The total order cost was $33.75.
To start, the “naan” was puzzling to say the least. I received half as much as your typical order. I say “naan” because the shape reminded me so strongly of store bought pita bread from the supermarket. There was no garnish and it had a texture I wasn’t familiar with for naan. It also lacked any color that suggested it was cooked in a tandoor.
Next, the malai broccoli was interesting. It consisted of about 6 whole florets, cut up into various pieces. Almost all of the pieces were blackened beyond tasting roasted. The cheese/sauce that was on it was really thin, and had a strange flavor. I did get some mint chutney, which had a fresh and vibrant flavor. A small highlight for a sad appetizer. Perhaps it’s not a dish for me, but I was still extremely disappointed with the quality for the price.
Finally, the chicken roganjosh. When I opened the container, I noticed the meat was dark. I received lamb instead of chicken – not the worst mix-up. The curry itself was a bit oily, but had good flavor. I tasted fresh spices and there was a nice garnish on top. The meat had good flavor and was tender. Unfortunately, the good flavor came with a strong saltiness that was too much for me. This dish came with rice, which was completely overcooked in appearance and texture, as well as void of any flavor or color. There was no evidence of cardamom, cumin seeds etc. It reminded me of instant rice.
The idea of a new competitor for Indian take-out in this area seems appealing, but Indian Curry Corner has completely missed the mark. There are multiple alternative options in the New London area with much higher quality, for comparable prices. The “naan” was an instant red flag which has me skeptical about the few positive experiences in my order.
Looking closer at the reviews, they seem to be of questionable authenticity. One even mentions a positive review for dining in, which is not offered currently. The appealing photos, upon a quick search, are generic and taken from the internet as well. Very suspicious.
I do not recommend this restaurant. I think this would be a rare exception where I would not give them a second chance.
