Hummingbird serves great Jamaican dishes at reasonable prices. We really enjoyed the authentic flavors and were very satisfied with the portion sizes. Nothing we ordered was bland, overly salty or overcooked. I tried the barbecue, fried chicken and my wife had the curry chicken. They were both great. The place was nice and clean and the service was friendly without a long wait for our take out order to be completed. We’re looking forward to going back sometime soon to try some of their other menu options.

It’s a place you will drive by because its tucked away, I found it when shopping an oriental market on bruce be downs right next to home depot… got in my truck and saw jamaican restaurant as from the islands of Trinidad and Tobago I had to check it out.
Tried the jerk chicken and rice, when I tell you I felt like it just came out of the grill
Super fresh and flavorful also had one of the homemade beef patties and was very flaky and with a unique flavor

Unfortunately, as of late I’ve been having less than stellar experiences at some of my favorite mom and pop local ethnic restaurants. Too many owners have neglected the cleanliness of their restaurants. Most notably a restaurant I have been going to over ten years was closed down by the health inspector due to major violations which I won’t go into here but I was amazed and also felt so sick to my stomach after reading the report! When customers can’t see the kitchen and walk through the establishment seeing dirty glass windows and unkept floors and counters it’s not hard to imagine what the kitchen looks like?? This behavior may be acceptable in some owners native countries but it doesn’t work well here! Restaurant owners have the responsibility to keep the public safe so we can trust our food is being prepared properly ESPECIALLY after having a global pandemic
With that said, I was so happy I decided to visit The Hummingbird today especially when I had other choices near by. The jerk fell off the bones, the cabbage was JUST what I needed as I opted out of the starchy rice and peas today. The portion size for the price was reasonable. I feel good and healthy and not like I’m going to get food poisoning!! Ugh!! Keep up the good work yall!

We ordered the brown stew chicken and curry chicken from Hummingbird Jerk House via DoorDash, and the experience was fantastic from start to finish. The food arrived at a perfect temperature, and the portion sizes were extremely generous. We had enough to last two days!

Wow! What a vibe! Such an authentic Jamaican experience! First time here and I’m so glad I decided to stop by. Note that they are closed on Mondays. The Jerk Chicken is perfectly spiced and literally falls off the bone. The portions are great and my $16 dinner lasted me for 2 nights! They use the freshest ingredients for the rice/beans, cabbage and plantains. Just fantastic! I definitely enjoyed supporting this local business over the other chain restaurants in the New Tampa area.
This cuisine is a niche and not your typical American style restaurant, so some of these reviews are a little biased comparing expectations to mainstream places to eat. You are served in styrofoam containers that are neatly taped so nothing leaks out. I’ve never seen a place do that before and I’ve eaten at hundreds of places. It was such a nice touch. The woman I ordered from was so sweet and extremely helpful explaining all the options since I didn’t really know exactly what to order. I definitely recommend giving this place a chance for an amazing meal that will not disappoint you if you want to eat real Jamaican food.

Ordered the lunch portion of brown stew chicken. Though the flavor was good, it was all bones. Hardly any meat! I’m sure whoever packed the plate saw they were spooning out mostly bones. SMH

Update. Went again, and another great experience. The young man at the counter is awesome. Highly recommend. Oxtail and Curry Chicken was great.
Great experience here. With the time change we were really for lunch, but they had jerk chicken with rice and peas ready to go. Tasted great, hot and fresh. Flavor was amazing, IMO was much better than the Jamaican place at The Grove. Employees were super friendly and helpful even early on. That’s hard to find these days.

Extremely disappointed. Called prior to going to this restaurant, and was told upon arrival that they were all out of oxtails and Jamaican beef patties at noon on a Friday. This was super frustrating as they had confirmed that they had both 20 minutes before my arrival. Not to mention the cashier had the most nonchalant demeanor. No compassion or hospitality anywhere here. I will not be back.
