With a passion for creating happy people and our love of coffee, we opened our first drive-thru espresso stand in Ashland Oregon in 1998. The demand for convenient, quality coffee & espresso grew and soon after opening our original location in Ashland, we expanded to surrounding cities in Southern Oregon. The Human Bean quickly established a reputation for having friendly and experienced baristas and offering the highest quality ingredients.

Human Bean are my favorite coffee joints. However, the Hayden location has really gone downhill. Yesterday, my husband stopped in the morning and brought me home an eggnog latte. It was delicious as expected. Yesterday afternoon, we stopped and had lattes again. They were both terrible. Couldn’t taste any flavor, coffee or otherwise and they both were very watered down. This has happened to me on 2 different occasions and my daughter experienced the same about a week ago. Apparently some retraining of the baristas is needed.

REVIEW FOR THE OWNER ON THEIR STAFF BEHAVIOR:
Today October 10/10/25 5:44pm we pulled up in a very loud truck and no one came to the window but we did see that the stand is still open and employee cars were still parked as well. We pulled around to the other window and finally one of the girls stands up from the floor, literally hiding and opens the window and then the second girls pops up from the floor as well. When we asked them if they purposely ignored us, one played dumb and acted surprised and acted like she didn’t know. But then turned to the other girl and started mouthing something. . Such unprofessional, childish, ignorant behavior! If owner has cameras please review them and possibly do some better training to your young employees that if a customer pulls ups way before closing, hiding isn’t professional and better yet when asked if they were hiding, telling the truth could’ve not resulted in this review.

Been coming here for years. Great coffee. Fresh coffee, not pre-made from a bag. The staff is always friendly and coffee orders are quick. Definitely my go to when on the go.

Very friendly service. My coffee was great. The breakfast sandwich I had left a lot to be desired. Quick service. They don’t do punch cards, they use an app. Right now you get a free coffee if you download the app.

I’ve been to The Human Bean over a dozen times. Before they stopped serving Redbull, that was something they did well. They also do sugary drinks like frozen hot chocolate and smoothies well. What they don’t do well with (in my opinion) is coffee and boba. I just ordered their “boba” chai and was, for lack of a better word, appalled, by what I received. First of all, I ordered a 24oz and was given what looks like 10-15 total pieces of “boba.” The texture of the “boba” was nowhere close to what actual boba (tapioca pearls) is like. To be fair, they didn’t technically say they were tapioca pearls, so it was my fault for assuming their “boba” would be actual boba. I could only describe the texture as jelly-like but somehow with crunch to it? I nearly spit it out. I also paid $16 for that drink and a burrito. I’m not sure how much the items were individually but I was shocked at the price of them combined. The burritos also have way less meat in them than they used to, mostly egg and potato with a hint of meat. Their “bright” energy drink that replaced redbull is also not good at all. Will not be returning.

Best coffee around! Taylor was so sweet! I came on Saturday night after a long day. I pulled up and she came up to the window with a big smile. Very kind and helpful. Gave me a delicious bright drink recommendation. This girl needs a raise!

My boyfriend and I got lattes that tasted like water with a hint of flavor. This is not the first time this has happened. It feels like everytime I go here my ” latte ” always tastes like they filled a cup with water and added a splash of flavor. There is genuinely never been a time when i’ve received a coffee from here that hasn’t been watery, it really does not feel like coffee or milk is being added. I’ve only been a couple times, I was hoping that maybe some of the baristas are just having a bad day but today confirmed that I most likely won’t be returning. I never write reviews for anywhere but i’m disappointed enough as a coffee lover to say something. Prices are high everywhere and nobody deserves to be excited about getting a sweet treat, spending their extra money, to get a poor cup of coffee.
