I’ve been wanting to try this place for months now and finally got the opportunity. I ordered the grilled pork báhn mì with everything on it and it was excellent, just as I had imagined. They toasted the roll and it was nice and crunchy with lots of flavor. I will be back!

I’ve been going to House of Banh Mi for about 10 years now, and I love them so much — best banh mi in town and wonderful people.

I tend to always get the same thing at this point (grilled chicken), but I’ve tried a wider selection of their menu and have never been disappointed. I’ve had banh mi elsewhere and it never lives up to HOB, which is always fresh, never dry, and hits the spot.

The employees/owners are so kind, greeting regulars by name, always friendly, even going above and beyond and apologizing for price hikes (while still keeping prices low). I have spent so many lunches with loved ones over a banh mi from HOB, and I always feel better after going, it’s a place I hold close to my heart and recommend to everyone I can.

I love you, HOB!!

I live in the neighborhood of this place and it is my regular lunch. The bread is up so spectacular might go to is barbecue chicken the special and pork barbecue. I Never eat inside because it’s so close to my house so I place order via Phone and pick it up. The inside is no fuss sit eat and go. The pricing is more than reasonable for what you get. Did I mention the banana pastry ?…order early because they go fast…

Im a food snob. I grew up with a family of professionally trained cooks and also a cousin who is a pretty famous chef to the stars in LA who studied at le Cordon Bleu in France. So I mean it when i say I’m a food snob. This was the best sandwich I’ve had in Portland and maybe anywhere. I had the Lemongrass Pork Bánh Mi. The bread was to die for- soft and fresh. The pork was super tender and full of flavor. The veggies were crunchy and refreshing. The service was amazing. I mentioned that it was my first time there and that it had been on my list for a long time to check out. The son told the mother that so she threw in a delicious pork pastry for free. Super yummy! I thought that was so sweet. I mentioned that I would wait outside while they prepared with my pup. He offered to bring it out to me. All for $8!

Thankfully, I live walking distance to this place. 10/10! Highly recommend with love ❤️

The House of Banh Mi is hands down one of the best spots for authentic Vietnamese sandwiches in town. I always go for the #3 thịt nướng (grilled pork)—it’s my go-to every time, and I highly recommend it. The pork is perfectly grilled, flavorful, and pairs so well with their fresh, crispy baguette. They don’t skimp on the fillings either—plenty of pickled veggies, fresh cilantro, and just the right amount of sauce to tie everything together.

Beyond the food, the service is what really sets this place apart. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, making you feel like a valued customer. Chris, in particular, goes above and beyond—if you’re a regular, he greets you by name, which adds a nice personal touch that you don’t get at a lot of places.

Whether you’re a first-timer or a regular, The HOB delivers consistent quality, great portions, and a warm atmosphere. If you love bánh mì, this spot should be at the top of your list!

Sliced BBQ pork with pate ⭐⭐⭐✨
– not the one I meant to order.
– would get the not sliced one next time, the grilled one

Meatball ⭐⭐⭐⭐
– my partners rating was 4/5, I didn’t want to taste it though because it was sort of a mushy looking meatball
– looked super flavorful though!

The bread for the banh mi is so good and fresh. My favorite is the teriyaki tofu banh mi, Vietnamese ice coffee and the super cute themes macrons they have. Excellent neighborhood spot!

Awesome banh mi’s, super tasty and very affordable. The egg rolls I had were delicious also. Maybe best of all was the customer service. Guy working the counter was friendly and welcoming. Looking forward to my next visit!

EDIT: Updating my review a year later to say these are STILL the best banh mi’s in town, and the gentlemen working at the counter is STILL friendly and welcoming to all his customers. Take this as your sign to come here as soon as possible, this is great food.
