The Hop Yard Alehouse & Grill in Pleasanton, California, is located on what was once the largest hop farm in the world. From the 1880’s to the beginning of World War I, the Pleasanton Hop Company operated on 1900 acres of swampy marshland along what is now Hopyard Road. Pleasanton hops were world renowned.
The Pleasanton Hop Company was an economic powerhouse that brought people together from near and far to work hard and play hard as well. We have tried to recapture some of our local heritage here at The Hop Yard.
We have created a simple place, reminiscent of simpler times, for friends to gather and enjoy themselves. So please, indulge in our fine fare and sample some of this region’s most unique and interesting brews on tap.
American grill serving familiar pub grub & craft draft beer in a roomy, easygoing space.

My first time here and it was very pleasant! The food stood out most to me, their batter for fried foods is delicious and crispy. The chicken was so flavorful and the texture was amazing. These are some of the better fried pickles (frickles) I’ve had, I just wish there were more that came with it. The full basket of fries came with a lot, they are like a mix between five guys and in-n-out fries, you can really taste the peanut oil. The outside seating was nice but the inside was kind of dark and dimly lit. They have a lot of drink options, it’s hard for me to find a place that has a lot of ciders or sours but theirs were very good.

We were really looking forward to coming here and honestly hoped it might become our weekly spot. Unfortunately, after this experience, never again.
From the start, things were off. The cups were visibly dirty and the water tasted horrible. We ordered an appetizer and weren’t given any napkins or plates, which made it awkward just trying to eat. It also took forever for a waiter to even come check on us.
The food itself was worse. The chicken was beyond oversalted to the point that it was literally inedible. The fries were also extremely overseasoned. I ordered a sandwich and couldn’t even eat it because the mayo tasted rancid. On top of that, the beer tasted extremely watered down.
What really surprised me was the gall to try to charge full price for the entire meal after all of this. I hate leaving negative reviews, but this honestly felt like we got robbed coming here.
Really disappointing experience. We had high hopes, but we definitely won’t be back

I typically don’t leave reviews but I felt inclined after my last couple visits here. The staff is amazing and clearly dedicated which is a huge part of my consistent return. Great constantly fluctuating beer list, great bites, and a great place to bring family and friends. Long time customer and can’t wait to continue coming here!

I forgot about this place even though I was working nearby for a couple years. Great atmosphere and good food. I had the rib eye salad and it was very tasty. Only issue is that I am still hungry after I dine here but it is a great location to meet with a friend or group for face to face catch up.
The have a lot of alcohol options, but I rarely drink and most places don’t have porters and stouts or the red wine I like for those occasions.

We had a Chinese Chicken Salad as well as the Southwest Chicken Salad, and found of them both unremarkable. We weren’t expecting high dining here, but were expecting something better. Basically, we could have grilled our own chicken and purchased salad kits from the grocery store and would have had a better meal. Their chicken looked blanched and had very little flavor. Both of these salads were edible, but disappointing (that’s why the food has a okay rating), and most likely we would never order them again in the future.

We had a pleasant experience when we can for a late lunch. We arrived when the shift change, our first server was a lot more attentive than our second server. It was an overall pleasant time. Food was good, yet it was more at a common level from an upscale bar than what I expected. I would give them another chance when I am back in the area.

Overall a nice place and friendly staff. A family dinner turned out to be a very long, hungry & kids getting restless wait. 45mins for a 2 burgers. Food is alright, burger was good, not so the same with fish & chips. Manager was helpful and understanding after some escalation.

This is a dog friendly bar with great outdoor seating and a solid tap menu. My friends and I stopped by with my dog and sat outside near one of their TVs to watch the game. They brought a water bowl for my dog, which was kind.
They have a strong selection of local beers on draft, and a bunch of really good burgers. One of our friends opted for the taco salad and loved it. The service was also fast and friendly. I would definitely return.

I enjoyed my burger and they had a solid beer selection. I’d return here for sure.

I have returned here now several times, and the food is always good. So is the beer. It’s probably my favorite spot in Pleasanton for a beer and food stop.

This was stop number one of the Tri-Valley Food Tour on the Livermore Wine Trolley. We had a nice private room. The food was a bit slow to arrive and was okay. I really like the zucchini sticks, but the chicken quesadilla was dry and lacking cheese. The buffalo may be great for someone else, but too spicy for me. The good thing was the variety. My husband enjoyed a beer.
