We had a wonderful dinner here which hit the spot without breaking the bank. The butternut squash soup was a creamy sweet start to the meal. The bread with sweet butter was delicious – wished there were more pieces of bread. The buttermilk fried chicken was juicy and flavorful. The braised pork tagliatelle was a hit with a creamy citrusy cheese sauce. Nice decor and cozy looking fireplace.

I gave their food a try the other night and am glad that I did. I ordered Branzino special and it was so freaking good. My dining companion had the burger. It wasn’t one of those burgers that need a bazillion toppings to be good. It was simple, but excellent. We asked and the buns are made in house. You can tell. I found the prices to be very reasonable especially considering the quality. They have a bunch of beers for $5, but also a robust draft list and some drinks that are hard to find on tap around here. The Hollows is an excellent addition to the neighborhood and has that neighborhood bar feel. Worth the hype. I’m looking forward to going back.

Yesterday (Friday, 14Nov25) was their second evening of service and it was BUSY. I surprised my wife with a trip to this place and hoped to easily snag a two top since we got there around 5pm on a Friday, boy did I miscalculate. We got there and was told there was going to be a 30min wait, a hour later our table was as ready

She got the maple old fashioned and I got the espresso martini, both were very good.

We started with the bread and butter (bread was fine, soft but not warm and the butter tasted like a sweet cream butter), cheese fries w mushroom gravy (I like mushrooms and this gravy was MUSHROOMY, kind of just like a rendered down cream of mushroom soup, which is to say it was as good just be prepared for a mushroom punch to the face). Spoiler alert: as others hav mentioned, the fries were fried well and were my favorite food of the night. As a fan of Cantonese food, I saw braised tripe as an appetizer and had to try it; much different than the dim sum tripe I’m used to (worked well w the cannolini beans but you kind of just got the texture of triple and not really the flavor).

For my wife’s main she got the veggie burger (bean based patty, said it was dry) w the side salad; her favorite part of the meal was the side salad (just mixed greens, no tomato or cucumbers etc), was head over heels w whatever dressing they used. I heard good reviews about the fried chicken so I tried it for myself. I’m usually an asshole and request dark meat but as this was their second day, I stopped myself. It came out piping out and did look a smidge black in some places but the chicken itself was cooked very well, still juicy inside. However the breading was very bland and the accompanying veggie slaw was fine. As someone who got accustomed to the GFC (Greek fried chicken) of Committee in the Seaport + Highland Fried’s fried chicken, I was hoping this could be my new fried chicken place but alas it is not it.

All of which is to say I would come back here but after the opening craziness dies down!

I’m impressed. When Rudy’s went away we were saddened, but we enjoy The Hollows, where Rudy’s queso and house margaritas live on. Everything else we tried at this themed restaurant (Halloween? Goth?) was spectacular. I’ll definitely get the breakfasty Smothered and Covered again, and the gnocchi was delicious. Try the house made hot sauces! (On the downside they do seem to have slightly less seating than before the changeover, and we gave up the first time we tried to visit, though that might have been a result of an opening week rush.)

Food was so good I forgot to take a picture of the entrées! The bone-in fried chicken was juicy, soft & fried to perfection in a light but deeply delicious batter. The market fish was served whole, leading with the char-grilled flavor and an amazing caper sauce, made New-American with fried onions. So good. Picture is of the delicata squash appetizer – the perfect plate to warm up a winter appetite.

My girlfriend and I took a friend to The Hollows in Teele Square last Friday night and unfortunately it didn’t live up to the strong reviews we had seen.

The positives: we were seated promptly and the cocktails were very reasonably priced at about $12, which was probably the highlight of the evening.

Unfortunately the food and service both missed the mark. After our server took our drink order we barely saw him again. We ordered two appetizers to share and asked that they be spaced out, but the entrees were dropped about two minutes after the appetizers arrived, before we had even started eating them and without share plates for the apps.

The fried calamari was good, but the rest of the food was underwhelming. The roasted cauliflower was bland, my pork, jalapeno, and artichoke pasta tasted oddly put together and lacked the flavors advertised, and my girlfriend’s “potato crusted” fish didn’t actually have a potato crust. The salad we shared also felt strangely assembled, with most of the ingredients sitting separately rather than coming together as a dish.

Our server never checked back after the first bites or asked if we wanted another round of drinks, and only returned near the end of the meal.

The space itself is very cool and we really wanted to like it, but between the rushed timing, underwhelming food, and inattentive service, the experience fell flat for us. Overall about a 2 out of 5.

Stopped by without a reservation on Friday night around 6. Wait for two was approximately 20 minutes. They sat us in front of the fire which was nice on this cold night but I wouldn’t prefer to sit there in the future. We ordered drinks, apps, and entrees. The cocktails were good. Bartenders and staff in general were attentive and friendly. The picture features our apps, the grilled octopus a with romesco sauce chorizo and beans. Delicious but the octopus itself was a small piece. We also tried the Yuzu calamari and enjoyed this very much. We also ordered the burger with a side of fries. The burger was flavorful but the bread a bit too dense. The fries were amazing. We also enjoyed the daily catch which was salmon over a squash based sauce and a side of broccolini. Good but not super memorable. Overall we had an enjoyable experience and would absolutely come back. So glad we get to support a local business.

I’ve been waiting for a while to try this place out since Rudy’s left, and boy was I happily surprised! The fried chicken was crispy and tasty. The Rudy’s margarita bright back find memories too and the staff and atmosphere was amazing! Check it out on a date night or just a cold night, and if you do pull up a chair at the fire table.

Since the day I noticed the mural being painted out front I knew I’d have to check this place out. We went on night 3 of being open and the place was bumping! 40 minutes of being open (5:40pm) and every table and bar seat was filled. We got our appetizers before our drinks but we didn’t mind since we were enjoying the atmosphere. The bread and butter was yum, the GREENBEAN CASSEROLE WOWOWOW and the frisee salad was a little salty but the egg was perfectly poached and delish as well. The Negroni was tasty, the beer taps were crisp. Can’t wait to come back!!

Went in on the way home to check out the new spot in the neighborhood, ordered 2 miller highlifes and their French 75 to drink, and the American chop suey and the burger with the house bread and butter to start. Bread was good and warm, and the butter was sweet and plentiful for the portion. My burger was cooked medium as requested and the burger patty quality was good, my only qualm would be the bun was a tad dense. I got a side of fries with a side of beef gravy and that was delightful. The chop suey was served with a marrow bone which my partner was very into. They didn’t have a dessert menu yet, but they did have a birthday owl at the table next to ours. Three individuals introduced themselves as the ownership team during our meal, a very pleasant visit and good vibes for their first month.
