Absolutely delicious! We set out for a nice dinner out and were NOT disappointed! Tried the ‘soup of the day’=Elk stew…wow! From there it only got better…lovely Ceasar salads, Bison Ribeye, Jamaican Salmon and Cowboy Ribeye Steak were are prepared and presented (with sides) beautifully. Because this was a “splurge” dinner for our small family, we also ordered desserts, that were so generously portioned, that we ended up taking them home to savor later! The Wait staff was VERY attentive and accommodating, from the moment we walked in and were greeted and seated, to our server during dinner and even as we left, a kind and purposeful exchange. Jaden D., our waitress, was very attentive without being disruptive during dinner, made great eye contact and was quite friendly and professional. Another thing we appreciated besides the lovely, clean setting was the kids’ Little Bits menu offering. It didn’t just include the typical restaurant offerings, but upscaled it to make things enticing….I definitely can see us bringing our adventurous grandkids to enjoy a fun meal. You can certainly count us in to be back again! The Hitching Post is certainly a hidden gem!

We live in Kingwood and truly appreciate having The Hitching Post in our community. The food is typically consistently good, fairly priced, and the menu offers a nice variety. The restaurant is always clean, and overall, it’s a solid local dining option.
That said, there are a couple of areas where the experience could be improved. A smile and a friendly greeting from the hostess and servers would go a long way. It would also be nice to see staff more attentive at the tables — checking in for refills or follow-ups without having to flag someone down.
More importantly, if you dine with a party of 6 or more, be aware that an 18% gratuity is automatically added. That policy is posted in the menu and isn’t unusual — but what is unusual is that servers typically don’t bring a check to the table. Instead, you’re told to go up front to pay. Unless you specifically ask to see the check, you likely won’t.
After handing over your card, you’ll be given a receipt to add a tip and sign. If you aren’t aware of the automatic gratuity and add an additional tip, the staff doesn’t mention that one is already included — meaning you may unintentionally tip twice. This has happened to us, and it feels less than transparent.
We still enjoy supporting this local restaurant and will continue to dine here, but going forward we’ll make sure to request the bill at the table before paying. A small change in transparency and hospitality could make a big difference.

Great place to grab steaks, burgers, and other entrees. I highly recommend perusing their specials and ordering their double pig nachos to share. Service is friendly and quick, and the desserts are top notch. You can’t go wrong here!

I’ve been coming to the area for nearly 40 years visiting family. Finding a good place to eat used to mean driving to Morgantown or Oakland MD. The Hitching Post has changed that. Great menu options that include wild game, aged steaks and much more coupled with a well stocked bar with fine options to please a bourbon fine like myself.
Becca tends the bar like the pro that she is.
A good family owned business that has filled a much needed choice for better options to fast food, tired establishments and gas station pizza.

I ordered three steak dinners two rebye and one sirloin and two desserts didn’t get my desserts and they charged me 177. 00 dollars and I left a tip for 15.00 dollars steaks were not cooked properly I asked for the sirloin to be flipped on each side once it was for my fur baby and one rebye medium and the other rebye rare of course nothing was right wasted money
